Jambo Jambo! (Hello! Hello!)
Wow! There aren't enough words to express the wonders of our photo safari to Tanzania during August 2024. One has to experience it for themselves. One can watch NatGeoWild yet it’s nothing like being there! The organization and care from Micato Safaris in preparation for our trip, shepherded by Bonnie Philbrick and Prachi Duttta stateside, was excellent. They kept us fully apprised for the months of planning we started in the fall of 2023.
From the minute we arrived at Kilimanjaro Airport, Nuru Mbise, our exceptionally great guide and director, was with us every step of the way. A couple times when he wasn't able to be at the Legendary Lodge, Josephine of Micato stepped in for him, and was always available to help with a smile. She was also present many other times, especially for our departure from the Arusha Coffee Lodge.
At the Legendary Lodge, a shout out to the staff; Ally and Ishmael were exceptionally wonderful. We arrived late at night and they still had us sit for dinner (when we expected the kitchen to be closed.) All the food was delicious and the service during our 3 day stay was impeccable.
Nuru kept traveling friends Mike & Carolyn, David and myself together in the same vehicle since we came together. There were two more vehicles in our cohesive group for a total of 13 very nice people. We traveled halfway around the world to meet a couple near our own neighborhood!
Abdul was our driver most of the time, and did an outstanding job. Abdul took charge when Nuru rotated between three vehicles. Abdul's knowledge of birds is tremendous, and he and Nuru have the sharpest vision; they can see and identify animals before anybody. At our last destination, the Migration Camp in Serengeti, Halfani was our driver who also did a great job.
Nuru was friendly, accommodating, helpful, knowledgeable. He also brought some luck, as he said there were several things we saw that he hadn't encountered in years.
We were surprised over and over again by the people, animals, views, picnics, service... everything. Fantastic! It raises the expression OMG to a whole new level.
We highly recommend Micato Safaris... there is great added value in every seamless step!
Its funny…Africa was originally not high on our bucket list. But returning to Africa with Micato Safaris is #1.
We will be back! Our Tanzania Spectacular Tour was truly SPECTACULAR!
Our only recommendation is to split up the trip. The flights are long and the jet lag can be brutal. Next time we will stay in Amsterdam a couple of days, then arrive in Africa a couple of days before the safari starts to acclimate! The return flight will be broken up as well. Our 40 hours to return was not very nice...even if first class...

Returned recently from their Botswana Wildness safari. No detail for our trip was too small. The Micato Guides were fantastic, seeing to our every need or request. The staff at all the camps were also there to ensure our comfort and maximizing our game drive experiences. The Okavango Delta is an amazing place and Micato made sure we were having an equally amazing time.

Going on a safari brings a lot of expectations with it , but who your Safari operator is pretty much decides the outcome of the trip . If you do not truly engage experts guiding you , and seeing to the 101 details pre, during and post trip you are making a huge mistake . After much research our group of 8 decided on MICATO . Now that we are back , it was one of the best decisions we have ever made as it relates to travel . The attention to detail , the quality of accommodations , food and beverage ,all nothing but superlatives , but we have all seen great logistical companies .
The true highlight of Micato is their people : from Leigh Rice with her travel and logistical magic , with her “ the answer is yes , what is your question “ attitude to Wesley our travel director who is a fountain of information , full of good humor , but never losing his focus on the task at hand , and all the Amazing guides drivers and other logistical team that were there for us ( many behind the scenes ,when we needed them , always with a smile and a “Can Do,” attitude . Not to mention Mrs Pinto , bless her heart for coming to greet us with the COO of Micato in Nairobi. While a trip with Micato is not for the faint at heart ($$$) BUT worth every penny .
This was a life altering experience , a trip of a lifetime , in significant part due to Micato . We salute you and Thank You !!!!

There are few words that can describe the amazing, and I mean amazing experience we had with Micato on our custom, private tour to Kenya--in celebration of my daughter's 30th birthday. Every detail from the planning through the return home (and we were sad to leave) were impeccable. My firm does leadership development and team building and I can tell you first hand that Micato is exceptional. Every person--Meg, Dennis, Eve and all of our fabulous drivers--took care of us, gave us surprises and made sure we had an exceptional experience. Africa Trip 2024:
Our recent safari trip to Kenya and Tanzania organized by Micato was as exceptional as the one they arranged for us to India last year. Our Safari Specialist, Marion Miller, put together a wonderful itinerary that proved to be beyond our expectations. She was always available to us and the attention to detail, accommodations, and personal care she and Micato provided made the trip truly special.
We were met by Micato immediately upon arrival in Nairobi, whisked through immigration and quickly off to the splendid “Norfolk” Hotel. Here we met the Micato staff as well as our personal guide for the trip, Tony Kamau. They were all friendly and delightful. Tony proved to be marvelous. He is a wealth of African knowledge, whether it be concerning animals, plants, history or African culture. Many times, we thought he could easily be a professor at a university.
After a couple of days in Nairobi watching young elephants being bottle-fed at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, feeding Giraffes at the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Kenya, and visiting the historic Karen Blixen home, we began our journey in earnest. Micato arranged multiple flights between sights to optimize our time. The flights were generally all on time and Tony made sure that our luggage and personal effects were always taken care of. He flew with us each time and accompanied us for every drive making sure things went smoothly.
It would be difficult to pick our favorite accommodation or safari experience during the two weeks. Each was special and thanks to Marion, were tailored for us. We got to see the “Big 5” along with many, many other special animals and birds. Tony had never ending stories and facts for every animal, bird, tree, or landscape we came across. He loved our numerous questions and liked to test us on our newly acquired knowledge. We thoroughly enjoyed his company and were sorry to say goodbye when we left.
The food during the two weeks was always very well prepared and delicious. Especially memorable were the surprise meals prepared for us in the “Bush”.
With our small group, Tony had the flexibility to adjust the schedule based on the weather and local conditions. Our memorable hot air balloon ride was moved up a day to take advantage of better winds for example. Overall, however, we had very good weather for the entire trip.
We could not have imagined a more enjoyable experience than that provided by Micato. Our sincere thanks to all involved especially Marion Miller and Tony Kamau.

What a wonderful safari to Kenya and Tanzania… thanks to the entire Micato safari team! Our US Micato team, which included Leigh Rice, our amazing director Johnson Ong’anyo, our sweet concierge Purity Karanja, and our very knowledgeable driver Simba helped make our trip so memorable and fantastic! We saw the Big 5 and more, beautiful birds, stayed in some lovely lodges and hotels, ate delicious food, and visited a school where we met adorable and eager to learn children that Micato supports thru each safari booking. Micato took care of us from the moment we landed in Nairobi until we took off again to return home. The people in Kenya and Tanzania have the biggest smiles and hearts. Feeling so lucky to have had this experience.

We just got back from our Micato Safari, the Grand Safari, with the Victoria Falls and Cape Town extensions. All we can say is “wow.” Micato exceeded our expectations, from the pre-trip consolations (thank you Nick Schroer) to ushering us through the airport in Cape Town where we sadly had to go home. We were treated like movie stars the entire time. The Grand Safari was magnificent, the deluxe camps and lodges were amazing, with the animals walking through the grounds, exceptional staff, and delicious food. Our Safari Director, Wesley Korir, and our drivers made sure we saw all the big five, (up close and personal) and they took extra efforts to make sure we saw the elusive cheetah and a beautiful leopard cub. Wesley was an outstanding Safari Director, he guided us through the entire safari with outstanding knowledge of the wildlife and entertained us with his stories. He made sure all our needs were met, surprising us with sundowners, lunches in the bush, and a special dinner outside on our last night in the Maasai Mara. Mercy, our Safari concierge, handled our stay in Nairobi effortlessly and our departure from Nairobi was smooth.
In Victoria Falls, Lizell Nieuwoudt and our driver, expertly showed us the beautiful falls which included a lovely sunset cruise down the Zambezi River, and seamlessly escorted us between Zambia and Zimbabwe. In Cape Town, Deon Alexander and our driver Wilson ensured our stay was informative and entertaining and they deserve special praise for taking us to some of the best restaurants in Cape Town, and waited for us until we were done to make sure we got back to our hotel safely. And, Yaseen Fisher, our concierge in Cape Town handled our stay at the One and Only expertly.
Micato has perfected the art of travel, everything is included, dinners at lovely restaurants, balloon and helicopter rides, complementary massages, laundry as often as you need, special gifts, (including celebrating our anniversary in multiple locations) and most of all they have the best people working for them, we can’t wait to take another trip with them.

From the moment we stepped off the plane in Cape Town, to the Safari itself, to Victoria Falls, the beauty of the landscape and the abundant wildlife was captivating - and because Micato handled every detail, we could simply relax and enjoy and be awed! Micato meticulously planned every experience based on our requests, and every detail and experience was thoughtfully and perfectly attended to by our outstanding Micato Guide Gavin and our incomparable Safari Ranger Warren! Gavin orchestrated seamless transitions between locations and arranged all our tours and reservations and experiences, and Warren shared fascinating insights into the animals and the ecosystem. The encounters with majestic animals—lions, elephants, rhinos, giraffes, leopards, and more in their natural habitat—were both humbling and awe-inspiring. The accommodations were luxurious yet respectful of the natural surroundings, offering a perfect blend of comfort and authenticity. It was a transformative incredible adventure, leaving us with unforgettable memories and a deep appreciation for the wild beauty of Africa. Truly a five-star experience! There is no way to duplicate or even begin to achieve this experience without Micato. We are so happy we chose Micato after much research - they elevated everything to a unsurpassed level! Micato Safaris gave us a beautifully personalized experience from the tours to the game drives to the meals to the accommodations. Embarking on an Micato African safari was truly the adventure of a lifetime! We received several emails and communications from Meg, a Micato Safari Specialist on getting us set up for our trip. She answered our questions and even anticipated questions we didn’t know we had. Se helped set up a surprise birthday celebration for one of our group members which was a very nice touch. Micato even provided the luggage we needed to use. Meg set us up for a journey we will never forget! She’s amazing.
From the moment we touched down, we were met by a Micato team member who helped us through customs and TSA. We had one suitcase that didn’t make it and the Micato staff stuck with it until it finally arrived. They secured our luggage and got us to our hotel. They pretty much handled everything for us. After a short night stay, we were off on our adventure. We were Immersed in the awe-inspiring beauty and vibrant wildlife of the African plains. Our journey took us through sprawling savannas, lush wetlands, and rugged terrains, each teeming with incredible biodiversity.
The highlight, of course, was the wildlife. Watching lions and cheetahs prowl through the grass, elephants move majestically in herds, and giraffes graze gracefully under the vast African sky was surreal. The thrill of seeing a rhino grazing at dusk and the thousands of wildebeest and other animals is something words can’t fully capture. Each moment felt like a page out of a nature documentary.
Our guide, Mr Brown was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, sharing fascinating insights into the ecosystem and the intricate behavior of the animals. His expertise ensured we not only witnessed 4 of the “Big Five” but also learned about the smaller, often-overlooked creatures that play vital roles in the environment. The leopard was elusive and it wasn’t because we weren’t trying to find one. This certainly will mean we need to visit again. Reading other reviews of Micato, each felt their guide was the best. We all strongly feel Mr Brown was hands down the best!
Our accommodations were equally unforgettable. Luxurious yet harmoniously integrated with nature, they provided breathtaking views and the perfect retreat after each day’s exploration. Falling asleep to the distant roars of lions and waking up to the calls of birds and monkeys made the experience even more immersive. It was surprising to us to learn the drivers and the camps we stayed in weren’t “Micato”. They all worked seamlessly and in unison with each other. They were a well oiled machine.
Every detail, from the stunning landscapes to the exquisite cuisine inspired by local flavors, far exceeded expectations. Whether you’re an avid wildlife enthusiast or simply looking for a unique getaway, a Micato African safari is a must-do experience that will leave you with memories to cherish for a lifetime. If you're looking for an unforgettable wildlife adventure, Micato Safari delivers in every way. From the moment we started on our journey, it was clear that we were in the hands of professionals who genuinely care about both their clients and the environment. Our guide, Mr. Brown was extremely knowledgeable, not only about the animals but also about the ecosystem as a whole. He was able to answer every question and tailored the experience to match our interests, ensuring that each day felt unique.
The accommodations were exceptional. Even in the middle of the wilderness, we enjoyed comfortable lodgings that didn’t take away from the raw beauty of the surroundings. The tents were luxurious, clean, and offered a genuine connection to nature while still providing modern comforts.
The safari itself was the highlight. We were lucky enough to spot four of the "Big Five" on several occasions, and Mr Brown and the drivers were adept at getting us into great viewing positions without disturbing the animals. What stood out was the respect for wildlife; there was no sense of rush or intrusion, just an authentic immersion into the natural world.
Dining was another pleasant surprise—delicious meals with a variety of options.
Overall, Micato Safari combines adventure, comfort, and sustainability in a way that makes for an extraordinary travel experience. I went on a three week safari with my sister through Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. Micato provided meticulous planning, help through customs, amazingly unique accommodations, and very knowledgeable guides and drivers. It was a life changing experience and the beauty and majesty of the animals was surreal. Every Micato employee was courteous, friendly, and extremely helpful. I can’t say enough great things about this amazing tour company. I want to give a special shout out to Chelsea our New York contact, Sydney Schellinger our travel agent, Safari and Robert, our driver guides, and Philip, our tour organizer. Absolutely the best vacation of my life!

Our expectations for an amazing experience of a lifetime were exceeded by Micato Safaris! Every detail was taken care of for us so that my husband and I were able to relax and simply enjoy the safari adventure of a lifetime in Kenya and Tanzania. Our guide, Henry, was so friendly and knowledgeable, and made sure we were thoroughly enjoying our safari. We were amazed at how many animals and birds we saw each game drive and how close we were able to get to them. Every Micato staff person, concierge, drivers, office staff, were so friendly and helpful, and answered every question and handled every request quickly. I was even able to let go of my fears of small planes and heights because there were no details to worry about, I just had time to relax and enjoy myself. I could not be happier than to have booked our trip with Micato. I very highly recommend this company!

Our family spent 2 weeks on the Hemingway Safari with Micato! We had a fabulous time. All 8 of us had smiles on our faces for the entire time! Our tour guide...Papa Lew...was the best. He took care of everything and always remembered the smallest details that I had requested before we embarked on our trip to Africa. Every place we visited was special. We loved our guides. They were so knowledgeable and helpful. We learned so much about the animals and their habits and animal families!
One of our favorite experiences was pulling up to our private BBQ picnic lunch in the crater. The Micato group arranged this beautiful picnic with the staff from the Melia hotel. Each family in our group had their own tables set up and we had a canvas awning protecting us from the heat. There was a bar set up with liquor as well as fresh juices, veggies, meats and even lobster! Of course there were plenty of desserts too. There were even baboons watching us from the trees! It was a very special lunch.
Micato made sure to celebrate birthdays in the month we were there as well as the other families on the trip. I can't say enough about this group. Everyone we encountered were so lovely and helpful. The camps we stayed at were extraordinary! The "tents" did not feel like tents once you were in them. They were huge! We had a sitting room in 3 of the 4 camps we stayed in and the bathrooms were incredible!
The reason we went was to see the animals in their natural habitat living their lives as they were supposed to! That exceeded our expectations. We are spoiled forever and hope to one day use Micato again when we travel to Africa or India.

Micato delivered an adventure of a lifetime!! We decided on taking our African Safari with Micato for my wife's birthday after extensive research. We narrowed it down to 3 different companies, but ultimately decided on the best in the business. Micato far exceeded all of our expectations! They went above and beyond to make our experience a memorable one. Their attention to detail is second to none and was thoughtful planned. Even when a potential issue arised, Micato handled it and turned it into a positive. One example of this is, I'm 6'4" and another guest was 6'7", Micato called ahead to the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater to have the front row of seats removed from the safari jeep! If you are deciding on a luxury safari experience look no further, you won't be disappointed!!
