My older daughter tried them because they took our ACA health insurance, were nearby and unlike some practices who now insist on getting your credit card info. to keep on file when you make an appointment to charge you for a missed appointment (which we understand lost time = lost $$ but we don’t miss appointments absent a true emergency so are unwilling to sign away our rights AND hand over our credit card number), they didn’t ask for this.
The provider options were all NPs or PAs but that’s increasingly the norm. My daughter met with a female PA earlier this month and I just met with a male NP, Wendell. Our experiences were excellent:
- nice practice in convenient location with reasonable policies and very friendly staff - front desk and intake nurse
- reasonable lead time to get an appointment
- thorough but reasonable intake forms on paper you could edit as needed rather than electronic versions where you have no option other than to agree fully with their terms like on a fee for missed appointments (I added in “except in case of emergency”)
- Wendell was very friendly, knowledgeable, communicative and thorough spending 20 unrushed minutes with me and thoroughly discussing topics and options
- when blood tests were recommended, they had a phlebotomist/lab on site, said it was Quest who I confirmed was in network for me (I’ve gotten hosed before with doctors sending tests to out of network labs for me without inquiry or discussion and because I didn’t ask, I got stuck with a large invoice way beyond the charge for in network lab work...patient beware)
- Wendell shared with me a price sheet for self-pay lab work with VERY reasonable prices if my insurance didn’t cover something but also said that they could code options for the lab to increase chances of coverage. Hallelujah! Most times, they code it at will/somewhat randomly and you find out about coverage for that code (or not) later.
- the in house Quest phlebotomist,Shaunte, checked my insurance coverage before doing the labs to tell me the cost and even tried taking out different tests and using different codes based on diagnosis to see impact on price total
- the total I’d have to pay with my stinky ACA coverage was approximately 3X higher no matter how she sliced/diced/coded it than their reasonable self-pay a-la-carte costs. But given my good health and prior lab results, I decided to forego this time around. Neither Wendell nor Shaunte made me feel bad in the slightest.
Ease of appointment set-up, level of care, interest and time with patient, consideration for costs before doing procedures....THIS is what health care should be like but hasn’t been for my family and me in years. Great people, great practice. Fingers crossed they stay half as good. My other family members and I will be loyal patients.
