What everyone is saying about PIE Lagos!

My wife and I came for lunch and had some of the blandest pies we've ever tasted. My beef pie was practically water with a flavorless crust, and her chicken pie was only slightly better. Service was friendly and drinks were cold, but the food was about as authentically British as it gets. Bland, flavorless and forgettable. Coming from Toronto, where great food is everywhere, this just didn't measure up. I don't even believe in God, but I still pray for mercy on your soul if you think this was a good meat pie.

An old friend from the U.K. was visiting me in Tavira and we decided to try a boat trip to the caves at Lagos, this entailed staying over in Lagos and finding a restaurant. We nearly always have Portuguese meals when he comes over but as we are both big pie lovers and I don’t get to have one very often we settled on ‘Pie Lagos’ as their website promised steak and onion ‘slow cooked to perfection’. Their reviews are good too so off we went, it was chilly that night and we really enjoyed the mulled wine on offer. The house red wine was excellent too, the waitress looked after us very well and when the pies arrived the whole plate looked very appetising. The mashed potatoes and veg were well cooked, the pastry was superb However, the meat was a big disappointment, my first piece of steak was all gristle, that went on the side of the plate. The rest was all very tough, more gristle and very unpleasant. Impossible to see how the chef thought it would be acceptable. My friend and I left the meat and just ate the pastry and gravy. We complained about the meat and the waitress came back with an apology from the chef and an offer to ‘discount the meals’. We should have asked for clarification as it wasn’t clear what this discount was to be. Our waitress also apologised for the pies and recommended the chocolate brownies for dessert, these were indeed very nice. When we received the bill the promised discount was just 5%! So ‘Pie Lagos’ think that the steak filling of their much vaunted pies only constitute 5% of the meal’s value! We had enjoyed a brilliant day in Lagos and we didn’t want to spoil it with an augument over a meal so we paid up and left. We should have stuck to Portuguese food as ‘Pie Lagos’ clearly don’t know how to buy or cook steak ☹️

We had read the reviews and looked forward to this meal, but it a huge disappointment. The waitress was lovely and kind, we ordered beers, the barbacoa beef and fish pie. That's when the downhill slide started.
Our food took 40 minutes to arrive. The beef was so dry, my husband couldn't eat it. I switched him meals, but my fish pie was pretty bland. I asked the waitress for more sauce for the beef and things got worse. The cook had a complete come-apart. Throwing pans, yelling profanity and obviously screaming at the waitress. My husband, worried about her, asked if everything was okay and she said the cook was mad because prep hadn't been done the night before. I could hear him yelling about the lazy staff and that they 'only had one table the whole bloody night...'
He made me some sauce, but his tirade and throwing of pots continued. I asked for our bill because we were so uncomfortable. The waitress understood, said she was sorry for his behavior and gave us a free beer, which we didn’t drink, and 10% off.
Never have I dined in such an unprofessional environment. We both left, completely stressed out, with stomachaches. Such a shame because the menu looked amazing, but didn't deliver on flavor or quality - or price.
Never will return.

We did not got served. People arriving after us got the menu and even drink before we even got the table full of ashes and 2 Glasses cleaned.
Edit after reply from owner: We asked if we could sit outside and the person behind the bar said yes so we sat down on a table. The waiter could have said anything that we should take another table or something but we got ignored by the waiter. Thanks for your long reply.

Ordered €100 of food and drinks for three people: three pies, sides, three beers, three ciders. After waiting for 40 minutes, a single pie arrived. I had to request a refund from Uber. Abysmal.
(The pie which did arrive was decent & the owner has responded quickly, so there's that at least!)

El camarero que nos atendió nos dijo que solo tenían superbock y Sagres. Lo venden como lugar de cerveza artesanal y solo tiene súper bock y sagres como cualquier otro bar. Además pedimos que nos limpiará por favor la mesa y lo hizo de malas formas. Jamas he tenido una experiencia así. Finalmente decidimos irnos sin consumir. Fue una pena porque la terraza era muy bonita.

Hygiene is a foreign word in this place, it's very covid-friendly. The staff is arrogant and obnoxious.
