I have endometriosis in my femoral and sciatic nerves; this causes cyclical nerve pain in both legs most months mid-cycle. After two endometriosis surgeries, my actual cycles are much better but the leg pain was getting worse. Oxycodone was the only medication that would touch the pain and I didn't want to need that every month. I came to see Johanne in the middle of a flareup in mid-July and I left that session with much less pain. I continued to come for weekly sessions. The next month when the pain arrived the flareup was much shorter (3 days down from 12) and the pain levels stayed mangeable. So far the pain hasn't come back but I know if it does I can come in for a session that will work much more quickly and effectively than popping a pill. Johanne is amazing; we are now working on long term hormonal balance. I get very anxious before my sessions as my treatment points are very sensitive and the needles sometimes hurt. Joanne is very compassionate and always helps me breathe through it and I know that I'm in good hands.

I am so grateful to have found Harlem Chi. I thought about acupuncture many times through the years but never made any real effort to try it. That was until I started having body aches and pain.
From my wrist to my back to my shoulder and neck -- the pains just got worse. A trusted friend --who gets acupuncture treatments-- suggested I try it and this time I listened.
He actually suggested Harlem Chi because I live in Harlem. I am really happy he did.
Starting with my very first session I felt relief pretty much immediately.
The only that has ever relieve my pain in this way is powerful pain medication.

I go on a sorta regular basis and it is always a wonderful experience.
Joanne is amazing! She really listens, is effective and thorough and I feel completely comfortable.
The space is tranquil, the location is easy to get to and find.

I gained additional respect for acupuncture when I contracted Covid 19. Harlem Chi was closed and I had to resort to teleconferencing with Johanne. She listened to me carefully and asked me questions before recommending herbs which I took to address the symptoms. During that time, I listened to her, observed and became an active participant in my healing. Harlem Chi is a resource and ally; with what I have gained from the follow up treatments, healing is now for me an empowering journey.

Johanne has created a beautiful space, and is taking all precautions during this COVID era to insure patient safety. I have many risk factors, and feel very comfortable in having treatments. The treatments I have received have been profoundly healing, sometimes nothing short of miraculous for a variety of issues that come up, from strange rashes to joint pain or constant fatigue. Incredibly professional, knowledgeable, caring, and welcoming, the well-experienced practitioners Johanne and Diana have made this place an oasis from the hustle and bustle of Harlem. I developed what seemed like allergies, itchy and super swollen eyes, running constantly, and runny nose. I did not feel “sick”, but this was annoying! I tried allergy medication, which did nothing. What? I realized I needed to see Johanne.
In one treatment, it is vastly improved and my eyes look more normal than they have in weeks. Rest assured, she is taking every precaution for the COVID situation, and I felt very safe and cared for during my treatment. Very grateful and will follow up.
