I'm only two weeks in, but I am very much enjoying TAC, and am about to make a commitment for a full year of lessons. I have also just completed the first week of the Fretboard Wizard Course.
I am at heart a singer / songwriter, with roots in jazz and blues. My primary instrument is my voice, not my guitar, and learning to accompany myself with this stringed instrument has always required a great deal of effort. Suffice it to say I am not a guitar natural, nor a mathematician, which would much facilitate understanding the logistics and language of the Fretboard. Having said that, I do love the guitar, I love challenges, I love learning, and I have a burning desire to someday be able to loose myself in playing guitar as effortlessly as I do when pouring out soulful vocals. I have studied guitar for decades, with numerous teachers, some very good ones, but Tony’s teaching style has already managed to shed light on concepts in the Fretboard Wizard Course that had until this point remained shrouded in mystery, and the daily lessons keep me interested, practicing and improving, trying out things I have never been introduced to in the past - like a Banjo lick! What fun! I have also certainly appreciated reading the lesson comments posted daily by the supportive acoustic community members, and look forward to eventually becoming involved myself. I am excited for the journey and the learning curves ahead.
As a former language teacher who has spent thirty five years in various teaching environments, I believe that the best teachers are not necessarily those who are just brilliant, but rather those who understand and can effectively communicate complex material, simplifying it so that it is understandable, while also conveying their love for the subject matter and their interest in sharing that with their students. Even more inspiring when the teachings are laced with a great sense of humour. Tony seems to have it all.
Thank you, Tony, for keeping it real with your boundless encouragement and sensitivity to your students, your delightful story telling, and your passion for conveying your extensive knowledge so well.
