Tl;dr. Just stay here or at another resort on the Yasawas. The mainland hotels are hit or miss, as are the activities. And everything is clean and taken care of, from airport hotel, back to airport hotel at the end of your stay. I stayed at the dorm accommodation because I was traveling alone, and I also booked on a short notice. I would recommend booking a day before and after your time at Octopus (at a hotel NEAR THE AIRPORT) as a weather buffer. Saved a few people I knew coming back. But, I must say, I was very impressed with octopus. I have never stayed at a hostel (note, this is a hotel, but a hostel option is available if you select it) before and was initially very nervous about it, but everything was clean and I had no issues. The staff are very warm and genuinely friendly, the food was great (though a bit pricy if you do the math on price vs how many meals you get), and the whole beach was really well maintained. The beach being clean was something I took for granted before going back to the mainland and experiencing just how much trash and other crap there was there. And how noisy it could be. Octopus was quiet, very clean, and a cool place to be. Plus, all the travel from the mainland, to activities, food, accommodations, luggage, is completely handled for you. It was so much better than dealing with a rental car (I did half my vacation traveling myself and half at octopus). That being said, there were some things that bugged me. First, they need some more rain-resistant activities. There was about two days of rain (out of my four days) and they pretty much cancelled everything. So it could be boring, especially when starlink went out. Also, they need a better system for managing drink orders. Basically, they give you the drink and then someone chases you around with a receipt to sign, usually much later in the night, before it gets charged to your room. And you should definitely check the receipt because it was not always right. A bit frustrating, but it didn’t ruin it. To be honest, the rest of my Fiji vacation was a bit disappointing after I left octopus. I intend to come back and just stay on the Yasawa islands at various resorts, forgetting the mainland altogether. Octopus was an amazing experience and well worth what they charge. Would definitely recommend if you can find availability to book. They also do babysitting where they actually take the kids around and do activities with them, rather than just sitting them in a room and staring at them. Not something I used, but definitely was a shock seeing them out and about with kids.

We recently stayed at Octopus resort and it is honestly so difficult to put into words just HOW WONDERFUL and truly memorable this time was, that its taken over two weeks to even try. We had stayed there a long time ago for three consecutive years and been longing to return ever since.Of course we expected lots of changes but the minute we arrived in the bay 20 years melted away and we felt like arriving “home”. Where to begin to list the treasures of this special place!. To our amazement we had booked a garden bure but at checkin found we had been moved to a beachfront bure which was out of this world. THE MOST beautiful beach and ocean quality in the world ( and amazingly at times we were the only ones on it!) Standing under pristine fresh water shower from a spring in the Waya mountain looking at the night sky in the beautiful outdoor bathroom falling asleep rocked by the ocean waves…and SO much more. But the true heart of Octopus is the people of this place most of whom are from the adjoining Nalawauki village, whose tireless hard work and gracious welcome and hospitality enveloped us in so much kindness from arrival to the sad time of farewell. I could list so many names of individuals’ endless care and kindness, but would hate to miss anyone, so can say unequivocally that from the newest trainees to those who have been there long, every single staff person went above and beyond in their care. The food is amazing as many reviewers also report, and on top of which the head chef/s took amazing care to attend to some of our health related preferences. There are great activity options but we couldnt tear ourselves away from the warm sea and stunning beach our favourite place. An exception and absolute highlight was a visit to Nalauwaki village and kindy. This review doesnt really touch the sides of how amazing this time was so if you are reading it and can at all manage to go to Octopus do not hesitate. We cant really express but we send our very deep gratitude and appreciation to all at Octopus. If we can ever manage it again we would return in a heartbeat. So the biggest VINAKA and love to all.
