VITELLI + CONSINEE
“The New Regeneration”
vitelli_official as proud guests of pittiuomo_official we are excited to unveil our new exploration in regenerative knitwear powered by Chinese luxury yarn spinner consinee_group
Once again, we want to emphasize the urgency for a Regenerative Design Protocol, where the creative process is informed by pre-consumer material waste rather than contributing to it.
In this endeavor, our design platform has joined forces with Consinee’s advanced spinning technology to create our first 100% regenerative yarn.
Instead of reclaiming leftover yarns and transforming them into new knitwear, this time we have regenerated leftover fibers and spun them into new yarns.
This means turning waste material into high-quality new materials for industrial production.
As we enhance our collaborative efforts towards a shift to circular knitwear, we conceived the installation at Pitti as an opportunity to blur the lines between the exhibition and the space it occupies—Pitti Uomo and the essence of Italian sartorial tradition—by exploring the theme of “harmonious coexistence” embedded in traditional Chinese culture through our perspective as non-native designers.
The collection offers a panorama of fragmented clues related to cultural identity and technological inventiveness, inspired by the arts and crafts of ancient Ningbo, home to Consinee’s main production facilities. We drew inspiration from traditional Northern Song dynasty Celadon ceramics, Shan Shui paintings, Bian embroidery, and the local Wa Pan tiling technique that has been used in the region since the 10th century.
The installation includes the screening of a short film directed by simionatomauro during his residency at the Ningbo factory, capturing the entire process behind the regenerative yarn design.
Complementing the installation is a digital guide featuring technical insights and artistic references for each developed yarn, along with a series of AI-generated images informed by our IRL knit swatches.
On view through June 14th.
