Today our founder, Tarlach de Blacam, is the first maker on stage at making_in, a cultural programme connecting international leaders in making across creative disciplines. Making In is hosted annually by josephwalshstudio in Fartha, County Cork. Every Inis Meáin garment is made on our small Atlantic island - a place that has shaped our knitwear for almost five decades. From the beginning, Tarlach and Áine de Blacam carried our collections to the world’s most discerning boutiques, establishing a reputation for considered design and exceptional quality. We decided early on that we would never mass produce. While the island has always been our inspiration, our resources are limited by its shoreline. Tarlach and Áine’s son Ruairí, and his wife, Marie-Thérèse continue to tailor a company that best suits making on the island, in micro-batches of continually evolving designs, inspired by our unique Aran Island location. Each garment blends heritage with modern technique: machines adjusted by hand throughout the day, hand-finishing completed with care, and hand-crafted details refined to last. The result? A piece that feels singular, connected to its makers - and one you’re unlikely to see twice. Designed, made and hand-finished in our Inis Meáin workshop, the only knitting factory in the Aran Islands, Ireland. Visit the link in our profile to Shop Featured Knits. #InisMeain #Knitwear #MadeInAran #Aran #AW25

A brand new yarn composition for Autumn/Winter 2025 is our blend of superfine Merino and Linen. The linen serves to make the garment more airy and breathable and creates a beautifully nuanced colour-shading effect as the Linen strands catch the light differently to the Merino. It also creates a depth of feel and texture with little bursts of crispness scattering amongst the Merino softness. A new style for this season, the Textured Half Zip Sweater is a refined yet relaxed go-to. Available in Rust Marl, a rich combination of coppery henna tones, and in classic Navy which sold out on launch last week - we’re looking into whether we can source more merino and linen yarn to reknit this season and will update here accordingly. Designed, made and hand-finished in our Inis Meáin workshop, the only knitting factory in the Aran Islands, Ireland. Visit the link in our profile to Shop Featured Knits. #InisMeain #Knitwear #MadeInAran #Aran #AW25

The Cashmere Pocket Sweater was one of our strongest selling styles last year. For Autumn/Winter 2025 we've evolved this key style further. Full of nifty design details like an askew chest patch pocket, contrast colour panels on the sides and sleeves and contrast colour trims on the neck and pocket, this year's Cashmere Pocket Contrast Sweater even has integrated air holes under the arms. This is a remarkably unique and playful sweater - christened the Drunken Irish Sweater by our US agent Michal Sestak for its purposely crooked pocket. Crafted with super-premium Cashmere and Merino yarn from Italian heritage producer, Filati Biagioli Modesto, made to the highest European environmental standards using only organic dyes. Available in a Navy Mix, a warm navy with blue flecked trims. Designed, made and hand-finished in our Inis Meáin workshop, the only knitting factory in the Aran Islands, Ireland. Visit the link in our profile to Shop Featured Knits. #InisMeain #Knitwear #MadeInAran #Aran #AW25

One of our favourite sweaters this season, the Cashmere Varied Stripe Tunic presents a subtle yet distinctive colour-interest sweater. Up to 25 colour combinations could be trialed in seasonal development before collectively deciding the most intriguing 5 or so colourways. Knitting in purl stitch out allows the varied colours to meld together further to create a wonderfully soft visual effect complimenting the beautiful hand-feel of the tunic. Crafted with super-premium Cashmere and Merino yarn from Italian heritage producer, Filati Biagioli Modesto, made to the highest European environmental standards using only organic dyes. Available in Silver Mix, equal parts soft pewter grey and calming mustard, highlighted by fresh creamy white interludes. Designed, made and hand-finished in our Inis Meáin workshop, the only knitting factory in the Aran Islands, Ireland. Visit the link in our profile to Shop Featured Knits. #InisMeain #Knitwear #MadeInAran #Aran #AW25

One year ago today, Inis Meáin was featured in robbreport’s Genius at Work series - a platform reserved for true masters of craft. Commissioned by paulcroughton, written by naomirougeau and photographed by the ever-discerning jkf_man , the feature charted the journey of our Cashmere Patented Aran Sweater from sketch to stitch. Over the course of a day in our island workshop, every stage was captured: the design process rooted in centuries of Aran tradition, the meticulous hand-finishing, and finally, the sweater in its natural element - photographed against the dramatic backdrop of the Atlantic cliffs. It remains a proud moment in our story: a celebration of heritage, innovation, and the quiet beauty of work done well.
