Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda is best known for mountain gorilla trekking and shares its borders with Uganda & the Democratic Republic of Congo. The three parts are connected - in Rwanda the Gorillas are in the Volcanoes National Park, in Uganda mainly in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest & in the Congo in the Virungas National Park.
As seen in my stories, before the actual trek in Rwanda you'll be driven to the Kinigi Headquarters for training and briefing on what to do & not to do when you encounter the mountain gorillas. This is the area where you'll also find out which family of gorillas you'll be seeing as well. They restrict visits to only 1 group per day to each of the gorilla families.
You'll need to apply for a gorilla trekking permit and the ones in Rwanda are $1500 USD a person (in Uganda its half)! They fill up quick, so it's best to go with a tour group and they'll take care of everything for you in advance.
The Hirwa Group is the name of the family I went to see, who had twins!
I ended up having my own private mountain gorilla tour & lucked out with the weather too, no rain!
This is a clip of my hike into the mountains, about 1.5 hours in, are you ready to see some gorillas?! #gorillatrekking #rwanda #travelanthropy
