The Vendée Globe is one of the most challenging solo, non-stop, and unassisted round-the-world sailing races, beginning and ending in France. The 2024-25 edition of the Vendée Globe will start on November 10, 2024, with 40 participants setting off from France.
Among the competitors is Boris Herrmann with Team Malizia, who aims to improve on his fifth-place finish from 2020. Beyond the race itself, Herrmann emphasizes Team Malizia’s scientific mission, which involves collecting ocean and climate data through onboard sensors to support climate research. This data collection is at the core of their mission, “A Race We Must Win,” which seeks to raise awareness and contribute to climate science.
Herrmann’s preparation for this race has been extensive, with his team logging more preparatory miles than any other competitor. Their innovative IMOCA yacht, fitted with scientific instruments, gathers oceanic data in partnership with institutions like the Max Planck Institute and UNESCO to further climate research.
