“Nice shoes, Miss!” was a regular greeting from pupils in the South London Secondary school my mum was Headteacher of for 16 years. 👠 One of my most significant shoe memories was when Mum was preparing her outfit for her final interview. She announced proudly she was wearing her leopard print heels! Mum was accessorising with bravery and passion in mind and stepping into a daunting situation being authentically her. I owe a lot to watching my Mum’s resilience and determination, playing the long game, rising up the ranks and bouncing back from rejection. There were many jobs she set her heart on that she didn’t get but she taught me that courage is having the balls to keep showing up as 100% yourself.
So here’s a little peek at some of my Mum’s fave SW’s and a look at the pages from my book that I dedicated to her.
Mother figures come in many different forms, there is no ‘one shoe fits all’. So this Mother’s Day, I want to recognise all mother figures for their strength, their unique style and their super power to dig deep in kick-ass heels, no matter what life throws at them.
