It's not a super-fancy resort (although there is plenty of luxury if you want it) - the nearby Paradise Cove is a better bet for something more upmarket - but with a wide range of accommodation options (from backpacker dorms to luxury air-conditioned beachfront villas), you'll find yourself sharing this piece of paradise with a delightful mix of visitors, and hosted by the most lovely people.
There is a coral reef immediately off the beach, so the snorkelling is fantastic. If scuba diving is your thing (or you would like it to be), Jodi and Kuki are consummate professionals and offer top-quality instruction and extremely knowledgable guidance around the myriad of local dive sites. Everyone raves about the food at Octopus, and they are right to do so - something to suit every palate, and it's all delicious.
Facilities for kids are great - there's a pool, and the kids club will take kids on all kinds of activities such as hermit crab hunting, jewellery making, kayaking, and fish feeding. Don't be surprised to come back from a morning boat dive to find your kid kayaking out to greet you!
I feel like I'm writing copy for a marketing brochure, but that really is the experience we had at Octopus. If we could go back there tomorrow, we would. We'll certainly be back when next we have the chance.
