We had a wonderful time at Octopus. The staff, the food, the facilities - everything was great. The beach was fabulous. We loved the snorkeling right near the beach. We would love to come back another time. Our only concern, which we have subsequently emailed Octopus about, but disappointingly they failed to respond, was the apparent lack of life jackets on their own transfer boat "Aftershook". It's a motorboat that takes about 15-20 people. Our trip from Octopus to the mainland was a little rough with a bit of a swell. That's what happens and is not in itself a big deal for us (except to our children who were terrified!), and the crew are no doubt experienced and capable at driving the boat. However, what concerns us was the fact that life jackets were nowhere to be seen. The sea is unpredictable and the unthinkable can happen, so life jackets ought to be accessible to passengers at any time. By contrast, we were fully equipped with life jackets for any activity (e.g. kayaking, fishing) we participated in while at Octopus, but at the much more open waters on the way to the mainland, no life jackets. This experience is the only reason we haven't given Octopus a 5 star rating.
