We’ve just returned from a magical five nights at Octopus Island Resort. What a find! Over 37 years, we’ve visited Fiji many times, staying both on Viti Levu and 3-4 islands. All of our visits have been positive but this trip was special. Octopus Island was extraordinary because of its setting, the food and the amazing staff. The Setting - Arguably, this is the best stretch of beach anywhere with crystal clear waters and great snorkeling just off the beach. The resorts nestles beautifully into the lush vegetation and mountain backdrop. And the Bures feel really authentic yet very comfortable with beautiful outdoor showers. The Food - You have to purchase a meal plan on Octopus Island. The breakfast is buffet with an egg/omelette station and other offerings. But it is the lunch and dinner which are both extraordinary. In our five nights at the resort, there was not a single meal that wasn’t extraordinary! I certainly think their risotto was the best I’ve ever had and their curries were also excellent. The Staff - Anyone who knows Fiji knows it’s all about the people there, their easy manner, humour and charm. With most staff from the nearby village of Nalauwaki, there is a warmth and sincerity that draws you back. They are so “present” with you…no mobile phones or other distractions and no rush to get away. In just a few days you feel you’ve made friends for life. A special shout out to Mereoni for her warm hugs, Meli for his broad smile and wonderful conversation and Tom at the beach bar for preparing a few too many pina coladas! Excellent job everyone! We’ll definitely be back! —————- Since our first visit in July 2022, we have returned to Octopus two more times. This time, there were new managers and a new chef. In both cases, we were not disappointed! The food was as amazing as ever and the managers have taken a great resort and made it even better! Best of all, they are intentional in letting the staff and guests mingle socially over music and kava. This leads to a real feeling of “family” at the resort with the only disappointment being that we had to leave yesterday. Thanks Octopus…you’ve improved on perfection and we cannot wait to return again soon!
