I was working in my yard when a Big Dog Solar salesman approached me. He suggested that I set up a meeting with his brother to go over my options for solar. I did not reach out to Big Dog Solar nor am I in the market for solar panels.
I had several questions for the salesman that he stumbled to answer but my main concern was about my homeowner's insurance rate increasing. I told him that I would reach out to my homeowner's insurance to see if my rate would increase. When I spoke with my insurance they stated that my rate would increase by $617.77/yr. It didn't matter if I were to purchase the solar panels or if I were to go through the PPA/Lease program that Big Dog Solar offers here in Colorado. I messaged the sales representative this information and he suggested that I just not tell the insurance company. I told him that this was unethical and that he wouldn't be getting a sale, I think that this is potentially illegal as well. I am going to call Big Dog Solar to file a complaint about their sales rep.
I have the text messages in case anyone is interested in seeing this unethical behavior.

I want to wholeheartedly endorse Big Dog Solar.
I got my system a few years ago and the savings are very significant compared to what my power bills would be without the system. My neighbor, with a comparable sized home, paid SEVEN TIMES what I did in electrical costs this winter.
When I first contracted for my system, Big Dog Solar handled all the engineering, permitting and power company integration tasks. The actual installation was quickly and very competently done.
Even during snow, ice, high winds & other harsh conditions, my system has functioned perfectly. The company recently detected a monitoring issue after a recent power surge that knocked out a large number of other systems in the area. They detected it from their monitoring & asked me to go to the controller to help trouble-shoot. Unfortunately, I am handicapped and cannot do even such a simple task. No problem, they said, and immediately scheduled a technician to come check the system. A tweak later and a couple more to further optimize the system and a call back to let me know all is good.
I am not only pleased to have a system that has proven reliability and substantial savings that were promised, but grateful for the diligent and excellent customer service that they provide. I strongly recommend Big Dog Solar to anyone considering such a system.

Looked for solar had another company come in and do a bid. Solar dog came in 5k below that and we’re great people to work with! If I had any questions they would answer in appropriate time and manner! Not regretting going with SOLAR DOG one bit!
