It's a long story...
I bought a truck from a friend for $50 because I was desperate and he is a friend. The insurance company in New West dropped the ball. They taxed me for $5000 instead of $50 and I didn't notice it because I was in a hurry to get to work. (I'm still waiting for my $600 refund, 12 months later).
I've bought my insurance from AllWest for 10 years and they always contacted my by phone, email, text and Canada Post to remind me of my renewal date. I never missed one. They even offered to deliver my insurance sticker every year.
Well, the insurance company in New West did not have comprehensive service like AllWest. They provided no reminders, (Yes, my fault, but I never missed a renewal with AllWest in ten years).
I missed my insurance payment and got caught with no insurance at Ambleside Beach with my wife and two small kids at the beach. The West Van police spotted my infraction and were going to tow my truck and fine me. I immediately called Allwest on Burrard Street and they kindly referred me to AllWest in North Van. The police were impressed with the service and gave me some leeway before towing my vehicle.
JULIE helped my renew my insurance over the phone (very pleasant experience), and a cool guy named TOLY delivered my papers and sticker right to the Beach...all within an hour...no extra charge.
Saved my butt, big time.
The cops let me go...but I still got a $600 fine for no insurance. (Yes, $600...so much for that refund...)
