We had a great experience with Scott last year when we needed a simple repair done on our rangehood so it was a no-brainer to reach out to him when we were considering a solar install a couple of months ago. Scott is personable, professional and understanding of the individual needs of his customers. He spent a significant amount of time talking us through the options and taking us through the ins and outs which we appreciated. Scott offered us a solar package we were happy with and we instantly booked in the install.
Whilst we were happy with the consultation and install, we did feel the communication was solid until the booking was made and deposit paid, at which point we felt Scott/Hott Electrics became less responsive to queries (we did have a lot of them as we had little knowledge around solar) which did dampen the experience.
The most stressful part was post-install when we needed to reach out for support due to an issue with our utility supplier. Prior to the installation, we were advised to switch suppliers which we ended up doing. A week post-install, I asked the supplier for confirmation that the solar was visible on the meter and was advised that solar was not visible and that a reconfiguration of the meter was required for any meter when transitioning to solar. We were under the impression from Hott Electrics that once the install was done, it was pretty much "set and forget" whereas the electricity supplier insisted they could not see solar until a reconfiguration was done on the meter - which Hott insisted we did not need. This meant until the reconfiguration was performed (at our expense), they couldn't apply a solar benefit to our bills. We found it frustrating that we had been stuck between the installer utility supplier not really moving forward which meant we were unable to reap any benefits of the solar for the first month. There was a two week period of back and forth between ourselves and Hott, and ourselves and our electricity supplier passing messages between the two to try and resolve the situation until eventually we got a second opinion and as a result agreed to the reconfig and the unexpected charges. It would have been helpful at the time to have had a quicker response time to the emails/messages sent or more support to help communicate directly with the utility provider to resolve this quicker. We are now receiving the solar benefit, finally a month later.
All in all, we ARE super happy we chose Hott Electrics but the experience would've been improved with a couple of little things to make the process smoother for a couple of people who had no prior knowledge of solar.
