Every fall, BYU Religious Education hosts the annual Sidney B. Sperry Symposium. Since 1973, the Sidney B. Sperry Symposium at BYU has become one of the premier venues for Latter-day Saint religious study. This year’s symposium marks the 50th anniversary! Join us in October for this wonderful event. Today we spotlight Jenet Erickson, an associate professor in the Department of Church History and Doctrine in BYU Religious Education. She teaches The Eternal Family (REL 200) course as well as Introduction to Family Process (SFL 160) for the School of Family Life. Her research has focused on maternal and child well-being in the context of work and family life, as well as the distinct contributions of mothers and fathers in children's development. She is a research fellow of both the Wheatley Institution and the Institute for Family Studies and has been a columnist on family issues for the Deseret News since 2013.

Religious Education is cosponsoring with the College of Nursing and Global Women’s Studies a lecture by Dr. L. Lewis Wall on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 4:00 p.m. in 321 MSRB. Join us for the Richard L. Evans Memorial Lecture, featuring UVU president Astrid S. Tuminez, on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 7:30 pm in the Hinckley Center Assembly Hall at BYU! The title of the lecture is “Finding My Faith: A Journey to Discover the ‘Virtuous, Lovely, Of Good Report, and Praiseworthy.’” Of her upcoming lecture, Tuminez writes, “At a recent dinner in my home, a friend reminded me of the 13th Article of Faith. These words have always been powerful in my life. I was born and raised Catholic but converted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at a young age. Over many decades, I have lived, worked, and traveled in diverse places. I have tried to feed my curiosity about the spiritual foundations of humans and the ways we navigate the always-shifting landscape of our existence. My faith is richer because of the influences of other systems of belief and other ways of living and being. In my interaction and communion with faiths other than my own, I have come to appreciate more deeply the love of God, which can be mysterious, but which more often than not also manifests itself in languages and experiences that we, His children, are able to understand.” Save the date!
