Today marks 40 years since President Reagan signed the 1985 Farm Bill into law, which was the start of the Conservation Reserve Program we know and love today! What started as a way to help farmers prevent topsoil erosion has become an excellent tool for generating wildlife habitat, protecting water resources, and helping farmers’ and ranchers’ bottom line. A lot has been accomplished in the last four decades that is worth celebrating, but there is work to be done. With the third year of a Farm Bill extension, funding for CRP remains at risk. Celebrate CRP’s birthday by telling your legislators how important this program is to farmers, conservationists, and hunters. Quail Forever is proud to partner with Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany to manage the land for wildlife habitat. At the heart of the on-base work are Julie Robbins, MCLB Albany Natural and Cultural Resource Manager, and Scott Dismuke, MCLB Albany Biological Science Technician/Natural Resource Specialist. Together, the two oversee about 1,600 acres of land on the 3,300-acre base, balancing ecological restoration, aesthetics, and hunting opportunities. Through an intergovernmental agreement, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provided the base with $50,000 to fund habitat improvements and contracted QF to deliver the work. “We have a small staff, so having Quail Forever on the ground with us is huge,” Robbins said. “They’ve helped us meet our burn goals and take on big projects we’d otherwise have to put off.” Visit the link in our bio learn more about this partnership and the work being done on Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany. #quailforever #thehabitatorganization

Habitat work doesn't stop just because there is snow on the ground. Seed stratification is a natural process that native seeds need to germinate and winter is the perfect time to put more quality habitat on the landscape. #pheasantsforever #thehabitatorganization

Quail Fact Friday - Gambel’s quail put their feet to good use. They often climb shrubs and low trees to reach berries. Interestingly, their shorter back toe never touches the ground while walking or running. Quail Fact Friday is presented by Irish Setter Boots #quailforever #quailfactfriday

PHEASANT FACT FRIDAY — Time is precious in winter – shorter days mean less time to eat. A three-hour difference in available sun means pheasants need to consume 20 percent more food in 25 percent less time. Pheasant Fact Friday is presented by @irishsetterboots #pheasantsforever #pheasantfactfriday
