Recently, Jordan T. Watkins, assistant professor of church history and doctrine at BYU, received the Harvey B. and Susan Easton Black Outstanding Scholarship Award. Professor Watkins received a PhD in American history from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He also has a BA in history from BYU and an MA in history from Claremont Graduate University. Carter Charles, assistant professor of church history and doctrine, was recently awarded with the Outstanding Mentoring Award from BYU Religious Education. Dr. Charles is a proud natifnatal (native child) of Haiti, the first Black republic. He completed primary education in Haiti (in Haitian Creole and French), secondary education in French Guyana (in French, with English and Spanish as second and third languages) and higher education in Bordeaux, France.
