Meet Matt Nelson, one of our 2026 #BikeIowaCity Ambassadors! Matt first fell in love with biking as a kid riding to school and friends’ houses in Grundy Center. After rediscovering cycling in his mid-20s, it quickly became a healthy obsession. Today, biking is how Matt explores and connects with his community — from riding Sugar Bottom Road and nearby gravel between North Liberty and Solon to tackling climbs like Brown Deer Road. He’s also a fan of local events like the Courage Ride and the Iowa Gravel Series' Kalona Horseshoe. As an ambassador, Matt is excited to help more riders discover the hidden gems, challenges, and joy of biking in the Iowa City area. The Courage Ride is an annual charity cycling event with roots in Kalona, that raises funds for sarcoma cancer research and uniting the community in honor of those affected by the disease.
