On Thursday 9 June, Year 7 students attended a performance by Poetry in Action as part of the course of study for English. They enjoyed ‘The Poet’s Quest’ and joined the troupe as they travelled back through time, learning about poetic language and techniques from some of the most celebrated poets in history. It was wonderful to return to live performances and to see the students engaged in Poetry in Action.

On Friday 10th June, our SMC Drum Ensemble took part in a 2hr workshop with drummer Sally Wiggins, founder of the beat lab. Sally and 14 students explored Japanese-style Taiko drumming and how to build variation into ensemble performances, in preparation for their performance at 'Stars By The Sea'. At the same time, our newest group, the SMC Flute Ensemble, also took part in a workshop with tutor Suzanne Cowan, founder of Wollongong Flute Studio. Suzanne and the girls worked on new repertoire for Good Sam's Day. The girls sounded great together and we are looking forward to their first performance!
