Explore Old Testament history and teachings with these new BYU Religious Studies Center books! Approaching Holiness: Exploring the History and Teachings of the Old Testament Krystal V. L. Pierce and David Rolph Seely, Editors This volume aims to assist in the personal and family study of the history and teachings of the Old Testament. The book gathers some of the clearest writings on the Old Testament that have been published by the Religious Studies Center at Brigham Young University. The Old Testament is not only foundational to our understanding of the birth, life, atonement, crucifixion, and resurrection of the Savior, as found in the New Testament, the Book of Mormon, and other scripture, but it also teaches us about God, our faith history, and the spiritual heritage of the house of Israel. To order, visit https://deseretbook.com/. From Creation to Sinai: The Old Testament through the Lens of the Restoration Daniel L. Belnap and Aaron P. Schade, Editors For some, the Old Testament is a difficult volume to read, much less understand. The language, symbolism, and history depicted within it can be challenging and at times frustrating. Modern biblical research and the methodologies used in that research have opened up this book of scripture to greater understanding. So too have the restoration of the priesthood and continuing revelation, which have revealed that the Old Testament patriarchs are not simply literary examples of righteous behavior in the past but living beings who have engaged with the Saints in this dispensation. This volume incorporates both academic insights and restoration revelation, thus demonstrating the way in which both can be used to gain greater insight into these pivotal narratives.

Daniel K Judd said, "The Fall of Adam and Eve was a blessed event in the development of humankind. And even though there are many questions about the Fall yet to be answered, we can be assured that all God does is designed 'to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.’” Read more here: https://rsc.byu.edu/no-weapon-shall-prosper/fortunate-fall-adam-eve. Andrew C. Skinner said, “The condescension of God occurred on two levels. First, God the Father condescended to voluntarily associate Himself with our fallen world by siring a son to live as a mortal. Second, it was a condescension of almost incomprehensible magnitude for God the Son, the great Jehovah, the Eternal God, the Creator of all things from the beginning, to forsake His throne of radiant glory and enter human history in the small town of Bethlehem as a helpless baby who had to learn to crawl and walk, who cut his first tooth, who stubbed his toes and bruised his shins, and who suffered the effects of cold, heat, hunger, thirst, and pain of every sort and kind.” Image: Gareth Harper, Unsplash
