“My God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Over the years, that spiritual cry has been felt internally and uttered verbally by many believers in their most pressing trials, including by Jesus upon the cross. But does it mean what we think? BYU religion professor Shon Hopkin has published on the background and significance of that phrase. In this episode he analyzes and applies messianic verses from its origin in Psalm 22, strengthening our hope in our trials through Christ’s suffering and redemptive triumph.

BYU Religious Education Leadership Changes
Scott Esplin, dean of Religious Education, recently announced the appointments of Gaye Strathearn and Tyler Jay Griffin as associate deans and JB Haws as the new department chair for Church history and doctrine. “Drs. Strathearn, Griffin and Haws bring significant talent and expertise to their respective appointments," Esplin said. "We are excited about their leadership within Religious Education.”
Additionally, Esplin expressed deep gratitude to his colleagues being replaced. “Andrew Hedges and Dr. Haws have served Religious Education admirably as associates to retiring dean Daniel K Judd, while Alex Baugh has led his department with wisdom and love. Thousands of students across the campus community have been blessed by their labors.
