Construction presented challenges all around due to the setup and the dimensional variations in the 4x4 lumber. Our project is on a pre-existing deck, therefore the installation had to begin from the bottom up. Additional cross bracing had to be added to the decking to account for the posts and rail supports. Because the deck is over 30" above grade any railing system would have to be installed so that there were not any 4" gaps (toddler head size) for the railings. That meant we could not use your post supports for the attachment of the posts to the decking. That would have left a gap of 7". The upper frame lumber had to be put in place using a mallet. The posts supporting the upper frame and securing to the deck had to be grinded down to fit inside both the lower and upper brackets. Due to the size of the upper frame 12' x 16', I needed 8 persons to lift it into place so that it could be secured. Yes, this took some planning but I am very happy with the result. Just wish you had lower brackets for a deck installation that would enable railing construction to meet building codes. I look forward to ordering my custom sun shade for installation in the spring and enjoyment for the summer.
