So you know where I come from:
- 23-years working Post Operative Rehab
- 4- years Operating Room first assist for the EACH Orthpoedic Department (600 cases)
- Combat Medic during Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom
-published in numerous peer reviewed medical journals
Chu Vision Institute performed my Lasik surgery. It was a great experience and I am glad I had it done here. i would like to breakdown my experience with each area.
FACILITY
The location was very cozy and relaxing on the inside. There was a nice size waiting room. The thing that I noticed most was that the PATIENTS that did most of the bragging about their care received at Chu Vision. They have the standard rotating video that explains what they do and the places they have been recognized, but the patients were the ones talking amongst themselves about how great the staff is and the level of care they receive.
The treatment areas and exams rooms are normal rooms with normal eye charts and eye devices, but they have AMAZING sterile technique, with a state of the art enclave (where they sterilize instruments). There is a lot of care in the placement of where the instruments go to avoid cross contamination. I would not be surprised if their infection rates are at near 0%, based on how well they operate.
NURSES
The nurses show how much they actually enjoy the care they give. They were very comforting and understanding. They explained everything and how the process was going to go. They gave me confidence that my surgery would go along fine. They never gave me an impression that they were rushing me along (which is a RARE thing in today's medical climate. The normal patient flow for a clinic their size is dizzying compared to the staff they have on hand and they were able to flow seamlessly). I got text messages and follow ups frequently. They REALLY did want to know how I was doing and if I had any questions.
DOCTORS
Dr. Ralph was extremely hospitable and kind. He was very gentle and reassuring during surgery. He told me step by step and minute by minute what he was doing. I felt no pain (or even discomfort, for that matter). He was very encouraging and kind throughout the procedure. The other doctors that evaluated me were very sweet and kind. They came across as loving what they do and it was not forced or seemed insincere. They truly enjoy helping people. For the first time in my medical career, i was in a clinic where ALL of the doctors I had met had no huberis or ego. Dewspite all of their accolaids and awards. Despite their commendations from collegues and peers in the eye surgery world. Despite all of the glowing commendations from licensing bodies, both state and federal, they are a group of "down home" people. They really do enjoy helping all people that come to their clinic.
ADMIN STAFF
The admin staff was extremely cuteous and polite. That is a hard job as they get the brunt when people are unhappy. They were very thorough and quite efficient. I never had to wait long for them and they always had a smile on their faces. You cannot help but smile when you are speaking with them. It was quite refreshing to see a group of people enjoy working front desk.
So, overall, I am impressed by this clinic. They exceeded my expectations and, more importantly, they saved me $2k compared to the last clinic that I was going to have perform my LASIK. Chu Vision is one of the few remaining clinics that care about patients more than profit. They are a dying breed of compassionate providers who seem to pride themselves on patient's happiness and joy more than dollars and cents.
