I contacted Resumes, etc. to inquire about resume writing services, specifically in the Jacksonville, NC area with the hopes that someone in the area would provide insight into the job market. I spoke with Fred via phone, we chatted for a few minutes during which he told me that his daughter was married to a U.S. Marine, and he asked since I was in the area, if I was as well, to which I reluctantly replied yes (I failed to see the relevance since this was about me and my job search). After our phone conversation I provided Alfred with three of my past resumes, both functional and chronological. Upon review of the resume he provided I noticed several egregious errors. The pronoun United States was not pluralized; one of the companies I worked for, which was in the previous three resumes I provided, was misspelled; and my name was not even correct on the second page of the resume; among other mistakes. He corrected the mistakes and sent back an updated version of the original document. I told him that I was appreciative of his willingness to correct the mistakes, however I found the work to be vastly insufficient for a professional resume writer; I did not feel his resume enhanced any of my previous resumes that I provided. I requested a refund, however due to already paying and agreeing to no refunds via a previous email he refused to provide any compensation. I informed him that I was not pleased, and would not be recommending his services. Alfred then responded to me with an email that I deemed to be incredibly unprofessional and threatening. He stated “and if you put anything online, I will return the favor with the USMC site where your husbands commanders will love it and I will also send an email blast to all recruiters and employers in the area that we have a relationship with. So we can both go to war.” My prior emails did not elicit such a response; I merely stated that I would not be recommending them to anyone. I would caution against using Resumes, etc., and I share this exchange in hopes of preventing others from having to deal with what I did. I recommend reading the Yelp reviews should you want further evidence of the unprofessionalism.

Let me start by stating that this is not a review of any services rendered by Resume Etc., as I have chosen not to do business with them. Instead this is a review based on my interaction with Alfred who in my opinion, was ill mannered, condescending in tone, and unprofessional to me. I called and spoke to Alfred and inquired about their resume writing services. He was quite winded (typical sales approach by some) but courteous and even humorous. He gave me a price quote of $199 for a resume/cover letter and offered to call me back so he could ask me questions about myself/career experience, etc.. I agreed to the call back. Later, when I spoke to Alfred again, I informed him that I am still shopping around and have not made my decision yet. At this point Alfred rudely cut me off and started to talk down to me in a very unprofessional and dismissive manner. He said, "if you'r price shopping then we're not the place for you". He then proceeded, in a very condescending manner, to tell me that I should just go for a $69 resume and call it a day. I immediately let him know that I did not appreciate his his ill mannered approach and terminated the call by wishing him a good day. Unbelievable! In this day and age with so many unscrupulous companies and price gouging, people like myself have learned to do our research, educate ourselves and get the best bang for our hard earned money before making a decision. No one should have to deal with the level of rudeness that I received from Alfred.
