Sam Ivy was such a gift for my dog Habeebi and I. I’ve had him for five years, and never had the discipline or time to really train him (and train myself). He was abandoned, so we don’t know much about his history. As a result of not training him early, he engaged in a lot of bad behaviors, the worst of which would include aggressiveness towards me (including biting) when he was stressed out. We’ve been through some very difficult times that left me feeling hopeless and trapped. I love him endlessly, and 80% of the time he’s a normal, fun and adorable guy. But that 20% made things unpredictable and at times a little scary. My trainer Hollie has helped so much, both by providing the tools we need to set boundaries, create a hierarchy (so I’m leading the pack and not my 15 lb half shh tzu :)), and keep everyone safe. She’s kept me accountable, which I think is the most important thing in training. Dogs can learn, but is humans have to learn first and then be disciplined enough to teach. She also pushed me to enforce boundaries and be the aggressive leader I need to be, in the same way that parents enforce rules with their children, out of love. She helped me off hours in some tough moments when I had family visiting and Habeebi was acting out, so there was a ton of support in between sessions too, which I was really grateful for, never really having had anyone to help or support with my dog’s issues. Seeing that my dog can learn and change has been such a balm for me, as parents of aggressive dogs know, it’s a really tough situation and hard to understand unless you’ve been there. I’m so so grateful to Hollie and Sam Ivy. We’re not at the end of the road yet, but we’re getting there.

We are presently enrolled in the comprehensive training program and Hollie is our trainer. After just a couple of weeks in the program we have seen a near-eradication of the negative behaviors (i.e. lunging on the leash and barking at passersby) that caused us to seek additional training for our dog. This morning a squirrel landed just a couple of feet from my dog. Three weeks ago, before we started training, he would have given me whiplash with a violent jolt, but this morning he simply looked at the squirrel and kept walking with me - amazing! Hollie is a rock star, very patient and always has an answer that is grounded in philosophy for any wild situation we throw at her. We enjoy working with her and team SamIvy and would recommend them to anyone.

We had the best experience with Team SamIvy. Our rescue Beagle Jack was leash aggressive and we had trouble walking him without pulling and barking at any dog that came into his line of vision. There was some skepticism as to whether virtual training would work for Jack, but we were open to the process once we had aloud consultation with Maribel. We were optimistic once the process was explained. Our assigned trainer was Gina. We couldn’t have asked for a better, more professional, patient and overall pleasant person to teach us how to interact with Jack. By the end of the first session we could see he understood commands. The lessons were an hour long and Jack did well. We did our “homework” every day and Jack was responding well to the process. By the last session, Jack was doing so well we ended our session a little early. Gina made us feel comfortable and communication was great. Virtual training may have its critics and skeptics, but we are 100% believers in the this method of training. The cost, while pricey, was worth it. Jack is “new and improved”.
