Wanted to share our story to hopefully help someone like us make the right decision in selecting Sam Ivy for training! Those that went through the program before us and left reviews definitely helped us make the decision for a consult and once we met our trainer Holli, we knew we were in the right place! If you don’t have time to read further… just know 100/10 would recommend, ESPECIALLY if you have pitties like us. Holli K. is AMAZING, we are so thankful for her support to help us achieve the goals we’ve set for our 2 pitties.
Almost 4 years ago now, we adopted Bleu our blue nose, who was the most chill bundle of joy puppy I had ever seen. Initially my husband and I enrolled him into some basic puppy classes, took him to the dog park often and on errands with us for exposure and training opportunities. Bleu adapted well in the first year and a half but when Covid hit we had to cut back on several of those exposure opportunities. We did more walks around the neighborhood instead. Which ended up creating bad experiences for Bleu. We always kept him on leash during these walks but there were several instances where off leash dogs would run up and attack or attempt to corner Bleu while on these walks. After 4 attacks in a short period of time, Bleu became very anxious to go anywhere or be around other dogs while on his walk. Pitties already attract a lot of negative stares (even though they are the absolute sweetest dogs). Bleu’s anxiety drew even more attention while on walks. It took time to address the anxious aggression created from such events but we still weren’t where we wanted to be when it came to our on leash walks. We wanted to find a trainer that could help Bleu focus on walks and refine his current skills so that we could work towards off leash training and eventually service dog training. As we go through this program with our trainer Holli, my husband and I gain more and more confidence and peace of mind with each lesson. We wanted our dogs and ourselves to feel comfortable on their walks, be able to focus when distraction is present and enjoy the different adventures we hope to take as a family. I was soooo skeptical about the virtual aspect of this program and wasn’t sure if it would have any positive impact. I can honestly say that it does have a positive impact that creates results. The proof is in the pudding, and because of this program so far, Bleu is able to interact with his new puppy sister Bella (our black and white pittie) without any anxious aggression, we can go on longer walks where his focus is on us not the barking dogs in the window or sidewalks, and is more refined in heeling.
The Sam Ivy programs are an investment, but an investment that’s worth it because you are given the tools, support and confidence to achieve the goal(s) you set.
