This is our second trip with Micato (previously went to India with them in 2023). 4 of us did the East African Splendour tour. We had no hesitation with booking with Micato again because our India experience was so terrific.
My wife and I travel a lot, and we've never had experiences like we've had with Micato. The people are all tremendous. The friendliness, professionalism, and knowledge they exhibit surpasses anything we've experienced. The hotels we stayed in were so unique and truly special in each area we visited. The game drives and guides were all so good. We saw so many unique things. It was truly awesome to see the animals up close and feel some of the African natural experience.
Both our trips always featured Micato "extras". Our favorite on this trip was a surprise "picnic" for our group (of just 8 total people) in Ngorongoro Crater. We bypassed the overcrowded picnic area used by the other safari groups and drove into a beautiful spot in the bush (supposedly to see a new baby elephant they had discovered) only to find a small shady clearing with members from the hotel grilling a full meal, serving drinks and generally just spoiling us terribly (which happens everywhere Micato goes). A great surprise and an amazing location for it.
And I'd be remiss not to mention the final day we spent with Micato in Nairobi. We stayed over for an extra day for travel reasons. Micato is deeply involved in Kenya through their AmericaShare program. We went to the Harambee Center in the slums of Nairobi where Micato supports the children of the area by providing educational opportunities and schooling they'd otherwise not receive. For every person who takes a Micato tour, another child goes to school for a year. It's an eye opening experience and one that has us wanting to help support them.
A special shoutout to the Micato individuals who made the experience so terrific: Marion, our travel advisor who worked with us for both our Micato trips. Mercy, our concierge (and an Harambee Center graduate) who may be one of the nicest and most wonderful people we've ever met. And last but not least, Johnson, our Safari director for 2 weeks. Johnson managed everything for our tour and did it with great humor and skill. He really made the safari special and memorable for our family. He's also made us promise to come back again so we can visit Rwanda and other areas. It's a long trip, but totally worth it with Micato (and Johnson) in charge.
We'll definitely be back again with Micato. Seeing Africa will always be amazing, but seeing it with Micato is the only way to go.
