I ordered 4 traditional Portuguese egg tarts and they were delicious. Only thing is the price is quite steep but I really enjoyed it.

Really good pasteis de nata! One of the best or maybe the best that I’ve had in New York so far. The only complaint is that I find it pretty hard to justify the price, I don’t think I’ll ever get comfortable paying 4$ for a pastel (they are 1.20€ in Lisbon).

A fresh made Portuguese tart is interesting, new, unique and tasty. The first time I tried the tart it was fresh. Crispy edges and warm middle, with a hint of cinnamon sprinkled on top. New prices are $4/ tart (March 2023). I came back 3 days later to get 6 tarts for $20 and it was close to closing and wasn’t fresh anymore. That was no crunchiness, it was just soft. And the cinnamon and detailing of the powdered sugar was barely present.

2nd try a month later. If you're a fan of Portuguese egg tarts, I would recommend their traditional & suggest giving Joey Bats other flavors a try if you're in NYC.

Pasteis de nata are decent, definitely not better than anything I’ve had in Lisbon but they’re not bad! They are a bit overpriced in my opinion but they don’t really have any competition so if you’re in nyc and craving one this is your only option

Flaky crust, creamy custard, dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. I feel like that's enough to explain how good the Pastéis de Nata was.

Excellent pasta de nata. My only complaint is that it wasn't hot enough. The worker that served me was her first day on the job. When giving me the tart, she cautioned that it was super hot. It turned out to be warm in some spots and room temp in others. Bummer.

If you find yourself in the neighbourhood, for example on your way to the Tenement museum and feel like getting some coffee and croissant before this is a good place to stop. Only during good weather conditions however as the place has no indoor dining. Tables could be a little cleaner, other than that coffee was good and the chocolate croissants really good. I can recommend.

Joey Bats Cafe has grown from a vendor at fair market to a stable local small business for years. Their signature Portugese tarts are always five stars. They also offer other pastries and drinks.

Loved this nice little spot! We were having some drinks and when the comedy show started we decided to stick around and check it out. The comics were all really funny and we got free moonshine shots with our drinks!

Could have been a 5 but the inside section was closed and the outdoor dining area wasn't really that great. The Pastel De Nata was incredible though

Pasteis de Nata is one of our favorite pastries after we visited Lisbon last September. We tried to find an authentic one in NYC and finally found a decent one here. The decor of Joey Bat Cafe is adorable and artsy with Portuguese white brick. The outdoor dining is currently available and the environment is good. The options on the menu were limited and we had 2 signature egg tarts and Bica Recheada. The egg tarts are tasty especially the creamy filling but the crust was thin, soft, slightly different from what we like. The Bica Racheada, which is pastry with savory bacon filling was surprisingly good. The portion is good for two people to share.

Delicious Portuguese egg tart in Manhattan. Little bar style cafe, seating is limited, so good for a quick bite. Egg tart, nata, is a bit eggy than the ones I had in Portugal, but still really great, crispy outer pastry and soft egg custard inside.

Delish pastries However, more effort needed to be sustainable. For example they could make more efforts to use less paper plates/eliminate plastic waste/offer compostable plastic straws/eliminate straws altogether.

Like what it said, the nata is a warm crème brûlée wrapped in a flaky croissant! The custard is very eggy with the perfect sweetness. However, I don’t understand they drizzled cinnamon power on top? Is it a Portugal style?
