After operating as a pop-up for two years. Joey Bats Café opened its first brick-and-mortar location, in 2018 on Allen Street NYC, their Portuguese inspired signature pastry Pastéis de Nata are Portugal's most popular pastry and were created in Lisbon in the early 1800's! Have been going there since 2019, the Café is always bustling with fashionista, showbiz industry types, along with amazing pastries and delicious coffee ☕️ Fun fact, when the waitress brought over the plate of pastries, I asked for Coffee and water, her comments was “ Water in your Coffee?!”that really put a big smile on my face… Soo goOd! Will definitely buy more of this deliciousness.

Beautifully tasty and fresh pastel de natas. I tried the passion fruit flavour which was tangy but not overpowering. At $4 per nata they are a little expensive (compared to 1euro in portugal) but not shockingly expensive. This place also serves Portugese sodas and drinks.

Unreal food. Some of the best sandwiches and natas I’ve ever had. On top of the delicious food, the staff are incredibly kind and friendly and go above and beyond to help. Feels like dining in someone’s home.

One of the best my coffee place takeaway in NYC. I’m coffee addicted person and spent every morning in 2 months to find a right cappuccino. Price/ quality/service 5 out of 5. Definitely my recommendation.

Holy moly! The best $4 you could possibly spend on food in NYC. After trying a pastéis de nata for the first time in my life, I instantly declared it my new favorite pastry and told several friends. The signs inside the shop that describe the taste as a croissant and crème brûlée having a baby are certainly not wrong. This place is an absolute must.

The pasties de nata were incredibly delicious and a unique dessert. Custard filling in a flaky dough, how can you go wrong?

Whilst visiting the Chelsea Market in NYC, my dear wife mentioned that she had found a Portuguese tart shop, and they were so delicious that she bought a second immediately after eating the first. That sounded promising so I followed up with a purchase of my own. There are a few taste sensations I forever remember, a steak I ate in Pretoria, a wanton noodle soup I slurped up in Singapore, a quesadilla I devoured in San Francisco … well I now have another one to add to the list. This tart was perfect. I live in Sydney but I’ll be back in NYC some time to get another one of these. Yowzer.

We ordered Pasteis and the puff pastry meat pies! Very delicious. The Pasteis were out instantly, the meat pies taking about 15 minutes but not a problem for us!

So glad to find a pastry shop that opens late! There’s also an outdoor dining area to sit and chill a bit. I like traditional egg tart with cinnamon. Crispy crust, not too sweet custard, and hot - love it.
