Hi everyone! I’m Maggie, one of the Orientation Leaders, and I want to tell you about The Heights, BC’s independent student newspaper, where I am the Photography Editor. Some of my favorite experiences have been photographing from the sidelines of a football game, writing about my favorite movies, and of course, meeting some of my best friends. You can almost always find us on the couches of The Heights office, located in McElroy Hall 113.
A little about The Heights: We print every Monday, and there are six content writing sections: news, sports, arts, metro, opinions, and features. The Heights is editorially and financially independent from the university, which means that the university does not regulate our content, and we control all our own finances. There are tons of ways to get involved with The Heights, whether you are interested in business, graphics, photography, or writing. We also have a creative team, which encompasses video, photo, graphics, and layout, along with a business team who manages ads and accounts. Finally, The Heights Introduction Program (HIP) pairs freshmen with a mentor on The Heights and is a great way to learn more and meet new people. We just recently celebrated our 100th year, and would love to have you as a part of our team! If any of this sounds interesting to you, visit our website bcheights.com
