Happy National Hunting and Fishing Day! To celebrate this day we want to encourage everyone to introduce someone new to hunting this season by becoming a mentor and taking the Hunter Mentor Pledge (Link Below). Below is a testimonial about the power of mentorship by PF and QF's very own Membership Services Coordinator Scott Moehlmann. “I am an adult-onset upland hunter and would have gotten into the sport much earlier had I known someone who would be willing to take me under their wing and show me the ropes. Furthermore, when I finally did take the plunge, get my dog, and start to try to figure it all out, I struggled mightily. I spent 2 seasons trying to learn the ins and outs out on my own with very little success. Once I met a mentor who showed me the where and the how of upland hunting, I started to have some success and became obsessed. Being able to do the same for others is incredibly rewarding. I try to introduce people to hunting every year and always enjoy the experience." https://www.pheasantsforever.org/mentorpledge

Pheasant Fact Friday!💡 Are the terms standardized, progressive, extended, special, and/or private used to describe your pheasant season? Definitions may vary from state to state. A “standardized” season does not change from year to year. Yours is standardized if its opener, length, and bag limit have remained the same each year, even though the pheasant population has increased or decreased. A standardized season often eliminates the political squabbling of changing the season each year. A “progressive” season changes the daily bag limit and/or possession limit during the season. Progressive is allowing 3 birds a day for the first 2 weeks, then allowing 4 a day for the remaining season. An “extended” season simply adds days to the normal season. If the state feels more birds need to be harvested (due to unusual weather or late crop harvest hindering hunting), the season may be extended. If the season ends, it can be reopened (again due to less than desired harvest) as a “special” season. This season brings out more hunters than a simple extended season. Everyone likes another opener. If your state allows Private Shooting Preserves, such operations usually have their own “private” season lasting longer and with larger limits than your season. #pheasantsforever #pheasant #pheasants #pheasantfactfriday

This year, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Land and Water Conservation Fund, a critical tool for conserving habitat and increasing access to public lands. The success of conservation programs like LWCF, the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, and others are the result of strong advocacy from conservationists, hunters and anglers, and private landowners. Your support of Build a Wildlife Area® will allow us to continue building strong relationships with federal, state, and local agencies to utilize these funds for permanent protection and public access. Read the full blog, and the value of the LWCF at the link below https://pheasantsforever.org/BlogLanding/Blogs/Pheasants-Forever/The-Land-and-Water-Conservation-Fund-Building-Wildlife-Areas-for-60-Years.aspx
