Now Streaming: Hardwater and Habitat, a Pheasants Forever Film presented by @sportdogbrand and @soundgear_official. Watch as late season pheasant hunting and ice fishing collide at the link in our bio. During the frigid winter months, it becomes abundantly clear that thermal cover and food sources play a critical role in the overall well-being of our northern upland wildlife and ecosystems at large. After all, healthy habitat, clean water, and abundant populations of wildlife go hand-in-hand. And although habitat has no offseason, pheasant season is fleeting so why not try to squeeze every last second out of it while also taking advantage of the same ice-forming weather so many of us actively avoid? Follow along as two friends attempt to find flushing pheasants and hungry fish via a unique twist on the traditional “cast and blast” while exploring South Dakota’s famed Glacial Lakes region. Was the action hot or were they left out in the cold? You’ll have to see for yourself! #pheasantsforever #pheasants #pheasanthunting #icefishing

“Ripples” is a short film about finding community in the uplands, and the profound difference one person can make, just by putting positivity into the world. Watch the full film at the link in our bio. We are re-elevating this wonderful film, featuring our very own national board member Douglas Spale, as a celebration of Black History Month. When Douglas, a Black man adopted into a mixed-race family from Nebraska, heard a request for more diverse role models in the upland hunting world, he answered the call. What came next was an incredible bond between himself and a young budding hunter that was forged over bird dogs, whirring wings, and upland landscapes. #pheasantsforever #quailforever #blackhistorymonth

Pheasant Fact Friday!💡 With the cold winter months of January and February gone, the pheasant may breathe a sigh of relief with March’s warmer temperatures. In fact the birds need 34 percent less energy (metabolizable energy) to survive in March than in January. This is largely due to the fact that increasing day temperatures are approaching the lower end of the bird’s thermoneutral zone. Within this temperature zone, the pheasant need not use energy to stay warm. The bird can keep warm by simply ruffling his feathers to increase their insulation value. The pheasant’s metabolizable energy (what it needs to eat and digest) is the sum of its maintenance energy and its productive energy needs. In January most of the bird’s energy is maintenance energy as he tries to stay warm. Warmer temperatures in March and April allow more of what the bird eats to be used for production energy. #pheasantsforever #pheasants #pheasantfactfriday

Simonett, Trampled by Turtles bringing concert for conservation to South Dakota
Trampled by Turtles will be kicking off the three-day National Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic in Sioux Falls with a show on Thursday, Feb. 29, at Washington Pavilion.
This year, for the first time, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever will recognize a national “Volunteer of the Year.” The award celebrates the very best the organization has to offer — the members and volunteers who optimize the Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever mission, who seek to protect and grow our wildlife habitat, and who help ensure our heritage continues for generations to come. We have chosen eight finalists (Four Pheasants Forever and four Quail Forever) for the award. The winner will be announced at the upcoming National Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic, which runs March 1-3 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Over the last few weeks we’ve gotten to know the finalists one by one, and have celebrated their accomplishments in the world of habitat conservation. The last volunteer we’ll highlight is Sandra Bybee, from the High Plains Chapter of Pheasants Forever in Kansas. Learn more about Sandra and her incredible volunteer work at the link below. https://www.pheasantsforever.org/BlogLanding/Blogs/Pheasants-Forever/National-Volunteer-of-the-Year-Award-Finalist-Sandra-Bybee.aspx
