CATHOLIC MISSION MONTH | Last Thursday, we had the privilege of attending the Diocesan Launch of Catholic Mission Month 2025. This event also marked the beginning of September and was held as both a liturgy and an information presentation. Students from Catholic primary and high schools across the Wollongong Diocese attended, with two representatives from each school. The event was important because it not only brought students together from across the diocese in prayer, but it also helped us learn more about the mission focus for this year. We discovered more about the people of Zambia and the challenges they face in their daily lives. One fact that stood out to us was that many people in Zambia can only afford to eat 175 grams of maize each day, an amount that highlights the struggles of food insecurity and malnutrition. This amount is 1/16 of the needed daily intake of food! This experience reminded us of how fortunate we are in Australia and showed us how much of a difference our contributions can make. By supporting the Catholic Mission, we can help provide food, education, healthcare, and hope to communities like those in Zambia. The most important part about our donations is that they contribute to teaching the people how to produce a greater yield of crops, to help them develop more efficient farming skills that will significantly better their lives. Overall, the event inspired me to think more deeply about how I can contribute to the mission, not just through fundraising, but also by raising awareness and showing solidarity with those in need around the world.
