REFUGEE WEEK 2025 | On Tuesday, four of our students took part in the Good Samaritan Refugee and Asylum Seeker Network together with the Jesuit Refugee Service Australia Conference. This was held at the Congregational Centre in Glebe to celebrate and commemorate Refugee Week. There, they listened to guest speakers Sara and Abdul, who shared their journeys and spoke about their experiences as refugees coming to Australia. The day highlighted the challenges faced by asylum seekers and refugees and recognised the complexities of getting a visa in Australia. This was a highly valuable and insightful day. Students were joined by other Good Samaritan schools to learn how communities can advocate for refugees, including writing letters to local members of parliament. One of the key takeaways for the students was when Sara, spoke directly to the students, telling them to be grateful for what they have here in Australia and to pursue their dreams. Imparting hope when her own circumstances appear so hopeless.

SUPERSTARS OF STEM | On 5 June, a group of budding scientists had the incredible opportunity to hear from two inspiring scientists, Nikki Keighran and Kate Fairlie, as part of the Superstars of STEM initiative by Science & Technology Australia. Nikki and Kate shared their diverse career journeys and reminded us that success isn’t always a straight line- it’s okay to change direction, face failure, and follow what you love. From radiation safety to land surveying for climate resilience, their work is helping shape a better world, and challenging stereotypes about who can be a scientist. Thank you Nikki and Kate for your insight, warmth, and wisdom! “Their speeches left a message that science is not just for the smartest or richest but for anyone who has the drive to learn. Both amazing women had their own story and achievements in science...Being able to listen to their speeches was an amazing opportunity.” - Mia De Andrade (Year 8)
