MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION | Last Thursday, a team of six @stmaryswollongong Legal Studies students participated in the second round of the @lawsocietynsw Mock Trial Competition against Edmund Rice College Wollongong in a civil court case. After a close and sometimes heated contest that mimicked the real adversarial process, St Mary’s defeated Edmund Rice!
The trial, which lasted for just over three hours was adjourned by Ms Elizabeth Saunderson. Barristers Ellie Chrostowski and Ruby Hamilton alongside solicitor Paige Gilmore, strongly argued the plaintiff's case. The judge made special mention of our magistrate’s clerk (Georgie Odonell) and witnesses (Shilah King-Ambrose and Sofia Santarelli) who were exemplary in their roles. A special thanks to the other team members, Ainslie Thompson, Lucy Ucles, Poppy Archer, Lola Wyld, Tahlia Hurry and Erin Chisholm who worked with the team before court.
The Law Society of New South Wales Mock Trial Competition is an extra-curricular opportunity for Year 11 Legal Studies students. It provides an excellent experience in the trial process that exists in NSW courts and enhances knowledge of the course content.
St Mary's will progress to the next round.
