ON COUNTRY EXPERINCE | Yesterday, our Staff had the incredible opportunity to embark on an enriching and educational journey during their Professional Development day. We were honoured to have Uncle Peter Button, the recipient of the 2022 Naidoc Award for Male Elder of the Year, guide us through an inspiring on Country Experience.
Uncle Peter's unwavering dedication to environmental protection within the Illawarra region and his remarkable work with the NSW Parks and Wildfire left us in awe.
To commence our on Country Experience at Sandon Point, we were privileged to participate in a welcome smoking ceremony. This sacred tradition allowed us to connect with the land, its history, and its deep significance to the local Aboriginal communities.
We are immensely grateful to Uncle Peter for his generosity in sharing his profound knowledge and stories. Through his teachings, we had the privilege of learning about the Sandon Point Aboriginal Tent Embassy site, its cultural importance, and its significance in the ongoing journey towards reconciliation.
This experience has left an indelible mark on all of us, reminding us of the importance of preserving and respecting our environment, culture, and history. We will carry these lessons with us, applying them to our work and fostering a deeper appreciation for the rich heritage of the First Nations peoples.
Together, let's continue to learn, grow, and work towards a future where all voices are heard and valued. We extend our deepest gratitude to Uncle Peter Button and the Aboriginal communities for welcoming us onto their Country and sharing their wisdom.
