Recently, Chief Joey Duncan presented Officer Josh Spinks with the Exemplary Service Award in recognition of his outstanding work and dedication to duty.
On February 17th, Officer Spinks located a stolen vehicle, which led to a high-speed pursuit. As a result of his efforts, 16 stolen firearms were recovered, and Colton McCoy Tubbs of Oakman, Alabama, was taken into custody.
We commend Officer Spinks for his professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to keeping our community safe.
The Cullman Police Department would like to share an important weather update from Alabama meteorologist James Spann regarding the potential for severe weather across North Alabama tonight.
A strong line of storms is expected to move through the area late tonight and into the early morning hours. The primary threats with these storms include damaging winds, heavy rain, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware, especially overnight when many people are sleeping. Please make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including enabling Wireless Emergency Alerts on your mobile phone or having a weather radio nearby.
After the storms move through, much colder air will move into our area with temperatures expected to drop significantly Monday night into Tuesday morning, possibly bringing a hard freeze.
The Cullman Police Department encourages everyone to take a few moments today to review your severe weather safety plan and know where to go if a warning is issued.
Stay safe, Cullman.
Today, the Cullman Police Department had the pleasure of joining the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office at the Cullman Senior Center as they hosted a wonderful hamburger and hotdog cookout for our community’s seniors.
Events like this are always special because they give us the opportunity to spend time with the people who helped build the community we all enjoy today. It was a great afternoon filled with good food, fellowship, and plenty of conversation. We always appreciate the chance to sit down, visit, and share a few laughs with the amazing men and women who call Cullman home.
We would like to thank the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and the staff at the Cullman Senior Center for hosting such a great event and for the warm hospitality. Opportunities like this remind us how important it is to stay connected with the people we proudly serve every day.
We are grateful for the continued support of our community and always enjoy opportunities to spend time together outside of emergency situations.
Cullman Police Department School Resource Officers Recognize Cullman Middle School Student for Exemplary Character
Cullman Police Department School Resource Officers Bryan Medlock and Tim Nalley recently recognized Cullman Middle School student Brooklynn Moreland for demonstrating outstanding character and responsibility while at school.
During lunch, Brooklynn noticed a mess in the cafeteria that had been left behind by another student. Without being asked and without seeking recognition, she took it upon herself to clean the area and help take care of the lunchroom facilities.
Her actions reflected a strong sense of responsibility, respect for her school, and pride in her community.
In recognition of her actions, Officers Medlock and Nalley presented Brooklynn with a NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers) Good Deed Certificate along with a Cullman Police Department School Resource Officer Challenge Coin.
School Resource Officers see students every day who quietly do the right thing, and Brooklynn’s actions stood out as a great example of leadership and stewardship.
“Doing the right thing when no one is watching is a sign of true character,” said Officer Nalley. “Brooklynn showed that taking pride in your school and helping others doesn’t require recognition, but it certainly deserves it.”
The Cullman Police Department School Resource Officer Unit commends Brooklynn for setting a positive example for her classmates and for helping make Cullman Middle School a better place for everyone.
Yesterday, the Cullman Police Department had the opportunity to participate in the Career Fair at Wallace State Community College. It was a great opportunity to connect with students, discuss careers in law enforcement, and share information about the many ways to serve our community.
We appreciate the invitation and the chance to speak with students who are interested in making a difference. Events like this allow us to build relationships and encourage the next generation to consider a career in public service.
Thank you to Wallace State for hosting a great event and allowing us to be a part of it. 🚔👮♂️
🚨 SCAM ALERT – BE AWARE 🚨
The Cullman Police Department has been made aware of a text message scam circulating that claims to be from the “Alabama Department of Revenue” regarding an unresolved traffic ticket and threatening suspension of your driver’s license or vehicle registration if payment is not made immediately.
The message typically includes threats such as:
• Suspending your vehicle registration
• Suspending your driving privileges
• Sending the debt to collections with large fees
• Damaging your credit score
• A link asking you to make immediate payment
These messages often include a suspicious link similar to:
https://alabama.org-hlq.com/us
⚠️ This is a scam.
The Alabama Department of Revenue will not send text messages demanding immediate payment for traffic tickets, nor will they threaten enforcement through a random link.
What You Should Do:
✔️ Do NOT click the link
✔️ Do NOT reply to the message
✔️ Delete the text
✔️ If concerned about your driving record, contact the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency or your local court directly using official websites or phone numbers.
Scammers create urgency to trick people into clicking links and entering personal or financial information.
If you receive this message, report it as spam and warn family members, especially older relatives who may be targeted by these scams.
Please help us spread the word by sharing this post so others in our community do not fall victim. 🚔

UPDATE FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY CHAMP CROCKER: NO BOND
This week, the five defendants recently charged with Human Trafficking - including one illegal alien from Mexico - appeared in court for their bond hearings before Judge Wells R. Turner. District Attorney Crocker personally handled all five hearings, and asked for no bond under Aniah’s Law. After hearing the evidence, Judge Turner ordered no bond in all five cases.
“Protecting children is our first priority. Thankfully, Alabama has the toughest Human Trafficking laws in the country, which I am glad to enforce. Covenant Rescue Group and Cullman Police Department did an outstanding job. The investigators worked these cases with dedication, diligence and professionalism. No one has to ask our local law enforcement officers or me to fight bond in these cases - I did it on my first day in this office, and will continue to do so,” said District Attorney Champ Crocker.
