PARADISE!! Incredible resort on the edge of the earth with the most pristine water and tropical beach with clear water. The resort caters to both backpackers (dorms) and families with young kids, so there is a nice mix of ages. Getting there is either a 4 hour ferry ride, or an expensive helicopter ride. As per all the other reviews food was excellent considering where we were in the world. Kids club was great to watch the kids for a few hours, with lots of fun activities for the kids to get up to! Wifi worked well in the restaurant area and in the villas (despite other reviews saying otherwise!),
Why you should go:
- Amazing beach, calm clear waters
- Fantastic snorkeling right off the beach; one of the best house reefs i've seen
- Swimming pool with comfy loungers / shade
- Great arranged activities - the village visit was a highlight
- Kids club had lots of activities; kids loved it
- Good value for money on the all inclusive package; plenty of food
- 2 bedroom villa had plenty of space for our family
Where they can improve:
- All the villa rooms are meant to come with anti mosquito plugs for each bedroom. Our villa did not have any, only found out about it last day.
- Whilst the outdoor shower was great, not having a net over it, let to lots of bugs in bathrooms, and then into the bedrooms. Remembering to keep the doors shut was a challenge.
- Whilst the restaurant does well to feed everyone at busy meal times; ordering off menu for the kids ie. vegetables instead of fries failed a few times, and asking for the kids meals with our entrees instead of at the beginning of the 5 course diner did cause confusion on multiple days (they got it by day 4 or 5).
Some Advice If You Go:
- If you take the ferry (Yaswa Flyer) do not sit on the right hand side (facing front) of the boat - it is in sunlight the whole trip and there are no shades
- The fresh pies on the Yaswa Flyer were very nice and just 4FJD (a lot nicer than the expensive sandwiches at airport arrivals)
- Get a DigiCell simcard at the airport, and that provided slow but good signal 3G service.
- The only place you need cash (FJD) is in the village for souvenirs / donations, and tips. You can settle the bill on your credit card.
- Take water bottles; you can fill them up with cold distilled water in the bar all day
