Great views, good diving and snorkeling. The service was friendly and professional. The bay was like swimming in a giant aquarium with clear water brilliant fish, some corals, and further out occasionally turtles, spotted eagle rays and black tipped reef sharks and even a sea snake.
No cars, no motor bikes, no shops, no power lines and none of that musty foul water smell that is common to many tropical destinations. You get around on foot or by boat. A beautiful place to holiday, as much because of what it doesn't have as what it has.
The Blue Lagoon attracts a diverse range of fascinating people from every corner of the earth and it was great to share Kava with the friendly locals and connect with people from the UK, USA, Russia, Syria, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Mauritius, Australia, Canada New Zealand, and I'm sure I've left some out.
I was told that there would be internet access at the restaurant, but it was worse than 1995 dial up! I was unable to access my flight details or book additional baggage and there was no hope for an online voice call let alone video calls. When I asked to assistance they just pointed to the phone antenna on the neighboring island and said " It's a long way. bad signal!" One Russian guest sad the he could sometime get internet access at 4am!
The only food is from the restaurant, so allow about $160 per day for food and a fair bit more if you want to drink. The food is good, and well presented but limited choices if you eat keto, carnivore or paleo like me or vegetarian like my friend. We had the same lunch and dinner almost every day and the steak servings were tiny. I was overjoyed when they had huge lamb shanks that would have satisfied Fred Flintstone, but that was only for a couple of days.
There is no proper waste disposal on the island so all the rubbish is burned. When the wind was onshore it was ok but an offshore wing brought the smell of burning plastic and rubbish. The smell was such that at first I thought that the fan motor had burned out but eventually I tracked it down to the incinerator!
Be careful with your equipment. My dive knife and filleting knife disappeared from the deck of my room.
