A little background. We adopted a Greater Swiss Mountain dog at 3 months. From 3-6 months we did a local training place which worked on positive reinforcement with treats. This worked great. We did puppy class, then loose leash walking and then teen class. Although he worked great in that indoor environment once we bring him outdoors and distractions, it went downhill. Our puppy kept barking cause he just wanted the treats, he would do what was asked, but you better reward him. Since he is 75lbs our main focus was healing, hence why we took the loose leash class. He was OK in class but not out in the real world. We kept trying the methods we were taught every day, but it wasn't working and he was getting stronger. When walking he would sometimes jump up on us to get his treats, he always knew where you hid it. When he was around 10 months, we called John at Pro-K9. He was very easy to talk with on the phone, and we setup an in house consultation. As soon as he arrived, on time as always, he entered the house and put our pup in his place and the puppy just sat down next to him. He explained he was going to put a Prong color on, this is not a collar that hurts the dog, it's a training method. Well, he had our puppy healing in about 5 min. He did a few passes to show us his method, then we took the pup and he was right by our side. We continued our sessions and now we can walk our pup with ease, no pulling and distractions are an easy correction. John is a fantastic trainer and easy to work with and schedule training sessions. Thank you John for making our life with our puppy a special one.
