I had a very disappointing experience at Goddards Wanstead when I took my dog to the out-of-hours emergency service. She had a lump that had remained the same size for years, but suddenly, within 24 hours, it grew significantly, and she was in pain. When we arrived, she seemed a bit more relaxed, but I still explained everything in detail, expecting them to perform proper tests, such as an ultrasound or further investigations, to assess the lump.
However, after examining her, they simply told me not to worry, suggesting it was probably back pain. This didn’t make sense to me at all. They prescribed painkillers and offered a blood test, but not to investigate the lump—only because of the medication. I decided not to proceed with it at that moment, as I wanted to properly examine the lump first and then do any necessary tests.
I left the consultation feeling unsure about their diagnosis, but I decided to follow their advice and wait 48 hours to see if the medication worked. The total cost? Nearly £400 for the consultation and medication.
By Saturday morning, I noticed that the lump had grown even larger and turned red, so I called the hospital. The receptionist said someone would call me back and asked me to send photos by email, which I did immediately. Hours passed with no response. Finally, at 3:30 PM, a nurse emailed back, simply saying I should call again to arrange a recheck.
I called and waited on hold for over 45 minutes before giving up. Later, I tried the emergency number, and they told me I could bring her in—but I would have to pay another £288 for a new out-of-hours consultation. I explained that I had already seen their emergency vet on Thursday night, but they said it didn’t matter—I would have to pay the full fee again. My only other option? Wait until Monday and pay £110.
I feel completely let down and helpless. I trusted them to properly investigate my dog’s condition, but instead, they dismissed my concerns, gave an incorrect diagnosis, and only prescribed painkillers. Now that her condition is clearly worsening, instead of taking responsibility, they are charging me again to reassess their mistake.
I would not recommend this vet hospital to anyone looking for thorough, responsible, and compassionate care for their pet.
