I took my dog to Wanstead Vet Hospital out of hours, as my regular vet is closed on weekends. A vet hospital is no one's first choice for spending their Sunday night, but my dog showed worsening signs of being in pain, and FirstVet advised me to seek urgent help.
However, the Goddard vet immediately acted like my visit was unfounded. He ignored the other vet's concerns before even performing the examination, and right away blamed my dog's sudden out-of-character behaviour on lack of socialisation classes and "the nature of the breed". I paid £220 for the privilege of being dismissed and talked down to.
I fully understand that lockdown has produced many novice puppy owners, and I'm sure it's a frustrating time to be a vet. This assumed inexperience was wrong in my case — I've had dogs for most of my life, this is my 4th rodeo — but I was too taken aback to protest. Either way, even first-time owners should be trusted to be able to tell the difference between their pooches' normal range of behaviour vs. drastic, abrupt changes in personality. The attitude I received for being concerned about the latter was rude and unwarranted.
On the positive, parking was convenient, the facilities seemed nice, the receptionists were kind, and I was appreciative to be seen quickly on very short notice. I've heard people have positive experiences with their cats here. But I hope to never have to take my dog back.
