It is a pleasure for me to write this review on Chimney Savers. My wife and I are senior citizens and had no experience with wood stove inserts. We had a fire place but seldom built a fire, it was more work than the heat we got out of it. We tried gas logs and two sets of those were all I wanted to waste my money on. Our heat pumps just could not keep our home comfortable so we needed a good auxiliary heat source to take the chill off the living area and sooth our old bones.
So we decided to search for wood stove companies and found the Chimney Saver web site and started educating ourselves. We learned you can buy stoves on the open market and try to install them yourself but what you might save is not worth the hassle. Besides for your insurance purposes you need to have a certified installer to guarantee the installation. Some counties require a building permit.
We called Chimney Savers and set up an appointment. Their salesman, Garrett, was super professional and made a great first impression. He did a thorough inspection of our chimney and showed us some damage that would need repaired. He explained what they do at installation, the liner they put in and how it works. He discussed the manufacturer they used for stoves and had complete confidence in the stoves performance. The stove being made in Canada gave me a good feeling they knew how to build them to last. We got what we thought was a fair quote. We were not looking for low price but a quality stove with good installation and safety for a long term investment. They had a nice set up with a lender to borrow the money for a year with no interest and we used that to finance it.
There office set up an install date and the two young men showed up when they said they would. They started to work immediately and it took several hours to repair the damages, put the liner in and install the stove. They gave us a final review on their computer, with pictures before and after they had done the work and left our home in great shape. A first rate job, and very polite young men.
The pay off has been in the difference this has made in the comfort of our home. Even our children commented how much nicer it was and why hadn't we done this years before. We have keep the stove burning night and day since before Christmas and the heat pump seldom runs, electric bills have dropped and we are much warmer, a win win for our family.
The one down side to a wood stove is that wood is a "whole lot of work" and you need a good source of wood. But it is really worth it. I would highly recommend Chimney Savers and their staff to anyone who is looking to improve your homes comfort this coming winter. I have not talked this much to anyone, even my wife in the last year, but I had a great experience with these people. Good Luck on your decision.
