We adopted Rip on June 9. He is a sweet dog, but we realized immediately that he needed serious training. He pulled on walks, tried to chase cars, bikes, people, dogs and also howled at them on walks and while at home. I don't think he had ever been trained. Gina at Sam Ivy to the rescue! Gina explained the program in detail, including the tools we would be sent and how and why they would be used. In only one lesson (on June 12), Rip was able to stay on his "spot". For the pulling and howling, she explained how we could use his collars to teach him to not pull and to calm down. By the middle of the course, Rip was a different dog. By the end, we could walk him with only minimal corrections and feel confident in his actions and how to correct him as needed. He has much better manners while inside and in the yard. We use the techniques we learned to keep him calm with our toddler grandchild and with our 2 cats. Training over Zoom might seem counter-intuitive, but I was comfortable with them because it was clear that we would be learning how to teach Rip. We have had trainers in the home, but I always felt intimidated by them because of course they knew how to make the dog obey. With Gina on a screen, we were the ones actually carrying out the program and that gave me confidence. Gina demonstrated the exercises with her dog and then coached us through them. The sessions are recorded so we can go back and review them. Gina always answered our questions and was encouraging, patient, and quick with pointers and explanations. I really enjoyed working with her. She is a lovely person. I can wholeheartedly recommend Sam Ivy Consultants. I don't think we would have been able to keep Rip without the training they provided.
