My son and daughter in law invited me to join them on the safari to Kenya and see the gorillas in Rwanda. I had never been to Africa and didn't know what to expect. They told me that Micato would take care of everything. I actually had no idea what that meant. All I can say is that the people who represent Micato are exceptional. Kennedy was our safari guide in Amboseli, Loisaba and Maasai Mara. He was with us for ten days. He is so very knowledgeable, caring, funny and thoughtful. He surprised us with breakfast in the bush. We also had a happy hour while on a game drive. He surprised us with a dinner around a fire pit. We were serenaded by the employees of the Mahali Mzuru camp. It was so delightful. The most impressive thing that Kennedy did for us was when Michael got sick.; instead of taking him to the nurse, he brought nurse to him. Kennedy went above and beyond his job title. He is an exceptional person. Samuel, our driver drove Kennedy and he was so helpful and kind too.
Noah and Kas were our drivers at Loisaba and Maasai Mara respectively. They were both terrific at finding animals and showing us the sights. Kas was an amazing tracker. We tracked a mother cheetah and her cub for three days. He knew exactly where to look and how to approach the cheetah. Noah found a juvenile leopard and we were able to watch in while it was hiding in a tree. The leopard was waiting for a couple of lions to leave the area. Both experiences were amazing.
At each camp, we were made to feel so very welcome. Everyone treating us as honored guests in their homes. They learned our names quickly and figured out our likes and dislikes. They just made us feel so very comfortable and wanted.
My three grandchildren were with us. Nelson, at Liosaba Lodo Springs and Patrick and Peter at Wilderness played games with them, ordered them special foods and drinks and took them on hikes. Sandrine was in charge of the drinks. She often surprised my grandchildren which thrilled them. It just warmed my heart.
Sula was our driver in Rwanda. He was also so knowledgeable and friendly. He told us all about Kigali and gave us a tour of the embassies and the government buildings. He recommended sites we should visit too. We went to see the Genocide Memorial and Museum and the Dian Fossey center. I highly recommend both.
If I forgot to mention anyone, I apologize. I met so many special people. So thank you to all who made this trip unbelievable. I am totally indebted to you forever.
For me, this trip was a trip of a lifetime. I will cherish the past two weeks forever. Thank you Micato for making a dream come true.
