Since 2012, Outdoor News has recognized groups across Minnesota with the Outdoor Leaders Award, given to organizations, chapters, or clubs who have made influential contributions benefiting the state’s hunting and fishing community. This year, the Brown County, MN Pheasants Forever was named the 2025 recipient during a live presentation at the annual Game Fair Brown Co. Pheasant Fact Friday! During the summer, the chick's diet continues to differ from that of an adult bird. Insects comprise considerably more of the chick's diet, while seeds make up more of the adult's diet. Around 36% of a chick’s diet is made up of insects in July and August, compared to 10% of an adults diet. Low availability of insects during this time is one factor in the high mortality of chicks throughout the summer. Nature also provides a supply of protein in foxtail and wheat. In July and August, small-grain harvest is at its peak, and waste grain is everywhere. Foxtail and wheat make up 52% of the chick's diet at this time. Public Access to Habitat (PATH) Program Expands to North Dakota Pheasants Forever is proud to announce the Public Access to Habitat (PATH) Program has expanded to North Dakota. PATH represents the organization’s primary mechanism to increase public hunting access on private lands – a key strategy identified in Pheasants Forever’s National Strategic Plan. Pilot programs initiated in South Dakota and Nebraska have been extremely successful, securing public hunting access to over 100,000 acres of high-quality habitat on private lands. The PATH program now moves to North Dakota, where it will be used to restore and maintain grassland habitat and expand public hunting opportunities in one of the nation’s top upland destinations.
