The Habitat Organization is proud to know that our wildlife habitat conservation mission positively impacts communities nationwide. Our priorities directly align with our national partner, Equity Bank, which has created many habitat success stories across Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Throughout the past two years, Equity Bank has contributed to multiple aspects of mission delivery, provided funding for conservation programs, and supported several events. This past year in particular has produced great accomplishments by partnering with landowners, enrolling acres in conservation programs, and restoring habitat to benefit quail, pheasants and other wildlife. Celebrating the North American Wetlands Conservation Act Anniversary in the Uplands If you’re an upland hunter, it’s easy to see the value of NAWCA in the marshes mixed in with prairie. Throughout the Midwest this winter, plenty of roosters will be flushed out of thickly packed and snowy cattail sloughs. And in the spring throughout the Southeast, wetlands will help generate bountiful insect populations – the necessary fuel for newly hatched quail chicks. At least in part, credit for access to the outdoors and resources for wildlife to thrive is due to funding from NAWCA. All conservationists have treasured the past 36 years of this program, and PF & QF can’t wait to see what the next 36 will bring. To read more about NAWCA’s history and impact, click the link in our bio.

Pheasant Fact Friday During the first weeks of December, hens are continuing the weight gain they started last September. At this time, the average hen has increased from a low of 1.9 lbs to 2.4 lbs. Imagine yourself increasing your body weight 27 percent in just two months. Although easy for some of us — most would find it difficult to do. Most of the hen's gain is in fat rather than muscle. Her breast fat tripled by mid November and will have increased six fold by mid December. Fat is the most convenient and efficient storage form of energy, as it contains at least twice the caloric value of either carbohydrates or protein, and takes less energy to metabolize than muscle. Policy Update: Another Farm Bill Extension and What It Means for Conservation 2025 has been a busy year in Washington, D.C. From a transition to a new presidential administration, to a wide-ranging reconciliation package, to the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, there has been a lot of news coming out of our nation’s capital. But for the third year in a row, one notable and very important piece of legislation was missing: a full, five-year farm bill. After one-year extensions in both 2023 and 2024, the 2018 Farm Bill expired at the end of September and was, once again, extended for one more year as part of the continuing resolution passed by Congress in November. So, what does this mean for the programs we care about, and where do we go from here? Click the link below to read more and find out how you can help fight for a stronger CRP. https://bit.ly/44zKVfG
